Brufen - Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a popular analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug. There are two stereoisomeric forms of ibuprofen. This drug can exist as (S)- and (/ )-stereoisomers (enantiomers). Only the (5)-form is active. The (/ )-form is completely inactive, although it is slowly converted in the body to the active (5)-form. The drug marketed under the trade names, commercially known as Advil , Anadin , Arthrofen , Brufen , Nurofen , Nuprin , Motrin etc., is a racemic mixture of (/ )- and (5)-ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen (Vl), Brufen , is twenty times more potent than acetylsallcyllc acid in the U.V. erythema assay. Unlike ibufenac, no longterm toxicity has been reported for (vi) and it is effective in man against rheumatoid arthritis but not osteoarthritis. Studies in man Indicate a half-life of six hours. 

These compounds form neutral inclusive complexes, in particular with compounds containing aromatic and heterocyclic groups, which allows applying them as iono-phores. In a polymer membrane plasticized with o-NPOE, lipophilic additives were also placed, in order to ensure the electroneutrality of the membrane. The electrode also shows a Nernstian response in the range of ibuprofen concentration of 10 -10 mol L, low detection limit of 3 x 10 mol Land good selectivity. The precise and reproducible measurement data for ibuprofen determination in water samples and pharmaceutical preparations, Brufen and Ratiopharm (from a local drug store), 96% on average, support its analytical usefulness.
