The results of these experiments have been considered by the Joint Committee for the Co-ordination of the Cathodic Protection of Buried Structures and, in view of the various types of buried structures concerned and the circumstances in which field tests are conducted, the Committee decided not to amend its provisional recommendation that when cathodic protection is applied to a buried structure the maximum permissible potential change in the positive direction on a nearby pipe or cable should be 20 mV. If there is a history of corrosion on the unprotected installation no detectable positive change in structure/soil potential should be permitted. These criteria of interaction have been adopted in the British Standard Code of Practice for Cathodic Protection . [Pg.238]

British Approvals Service for Electrical Equipment in Flammable Atmospheres (BASEEEA) and Physikalische-Technische Bimdesanstalt (PTB), Germany, which, along with other European approvals bodies, provides certification to the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) standards... [Pg.562]

Early and current efforts originating in the United States for standardization of chemical nomenclature on both a national and international level are reviewed. Committees sponsored by the National Research Council, which is the official organization for dealing with the IUPAC, and ACS committees correlate work to achieve consistency. These committees, with names and addresses of chairmen, are listed. British-U. S. cooperation on standardizing nomenclature, which resulted in joint adoption of ten rules in 1923, has been renewed. Nomenclature information is published in ACS periodicals and in eighteen pamphlets which are available from Chemical Abstracts. [Pg.55]

Regularly updated guidelines have been provided by the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) and are widely used in many countries, although the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy has produced its own guidelines and testing procedures (see Further reading section). [Pg.197]

The recognised body in the United Kingdom for the preparation of specifications for quality, performance or dimensions, methods of test, definitions and symbols, codes of practice, etc. British Standards are prepared under the guidance of representative committees and are widely circulated before they are authorised for publication. BSI co-operates in preparing international standards for rubber and plastics through ISO/TC45 and ISO/TC61 respectively. See ISO. [Pg.15]

In January 1911, Wiley sent Hesse s manuscript on to Secretary Wilson with a recommendation that it be published. It appeared the following year as Bureau of Chemistry Bulletin //147, "Coal Tar Colors Used in Food Products." Hesse s report remained the standard work on the subject for many years it was heavily cited by a British Parliamentary committee as late as 1954 (70). [Pg.153]
