The systematic lUPAC nomenclature of compounds tries to characterize compounds by a unique name. The names are quite often not as compact as the trivial names, which are short and simple to memorize. In fact, the lUPAC name can be quite long and cumbersome. This is one reason why trivial names are still heavily used today. The basic aim of the lUPAC nomenclature is to describe particular parts of the structure (fi agments) in a systematic manner, with special expressions from a vocabulary of terms. Therefore, the systematic nomenclature can be, and is, used in database systems such as the Chemical Abstracts Service (see Section 5.4) as index for chemical structures. However, this notation does not directly allow the extraction of additional information about the molecule, such as bond orders or molecular weight. [Pg.21]

Because of the high costs of raw materials and the relatively complex synthesis, the 2-cyanoacryhc esters are moderately expensive materials when considered in bulk quantities. Depending on the quantity and the specific ester or formulation involved, the prices for cyanoacryhc ester adhesives can range from approximately 30/kg to over 1000/kg. For these reasons, as weU as several technical factors related to handling and performance, cyanoacryhc ester adhesives are best suited to small bonding apphcations, very often where single drops or small beads are adequate for bonding. In such cases the cost of the adhesive becomes inconsequential compared to the value of the service it performs, and these adhesives become very economical to use. [Pg.178]

The procedures used for estimating the service life of solid rocket and gun propulsion systems include physical and chemical tests after storage at elevated temperatures under simulated field conditions, modeling and simulation of propellant strains and bond tine characteristics, measurements of stabilizer content, periodic surveillance tests of systems received after storage in the field, and extrapolation of the service life from the detailed data obtained (21—33). [Pg.34]

As a tme thermoplastic, FEP copolymer can be melt-processed by extmsion and compression, injection, and blow molding. Films can be heat-bonded and sealed, vacuum-formed, and laminated to various substrates. Chemical inertness and corrosion resistance make FEP highly suitable for chemical services its dielectric and insulating properties favor it for electrical and electronic service and its low frictional properties, mechanical toughness, thermal stabiUty, and nonstick quaUty make it highly suitable for bearings and seals, high temperature components, and nonstick surfaces. [Pg.358]

Explosion-bonded metals are produced by several manufacturers in the United States, Europe, and Japan. The chemical industry is the principal consumer of explosion-bonded metals which are used in the constmction of clad reaction vessels and heat-exchanger tube sheets for corrosion-resistant service. The primary market segments for explosion-bonded metals are for corrosion-resistant pressure vessels, tube sheets for heat exchangers, electrical transition joints, and stmctural transition joints. Total world markets for explosion-clad metals are estimated to fluctuate between 30 x 10 to 60 x 10 annually. [Pg.152]
