Blow-molding metal

Snap fits are widely used for both temporary and permanent assemblies, principally in injection and blow molded products. Besides being simple and inexpensive, snap fits have superior qualities. Snap fits can be applied to any combination of materials, such as plastic and plastic, metal and plastics, glass and plastics, and others. All types of plastics can be used (Chapter 3, DESIGN CONCEPT, Snap Joint). [Pg.270]

When a parison or preform is inflated, it displaces the air around it within the mold. If no provision is made to vent the mold, compression of the air around the parison or preform can raise its temperature to such an extent that it can scorch the surface of the product. To avoid this problem, we equip blow molds with vents. These can consist of slit vents at the parting line between mold halves, porous plugs of sintered metal, or small holes drilled into the cavity walls. [Pg.257]

Blow molding is widely used to make polymeric containers of all sorts. In many markets blow molded plastic products have largely displaced such traditional materials as glass, ceramics, or metal. The inherent advantages of polymeric containers include their light weight, clarity, toughness, and versatility. —... [Pg.258]

P.Y.212 is not recommended for exterior use, but provides an excellent value for interior applications such as packaging and household durables of all types. Pigment Yellow 212 is tinctorially quite strong as metallized azos go and exhibits very good dimensional stability, making it very useful in molded items such as blow molded containers. [Pg.235]

The alloys can be processed into parts requiring hydrolytic and autoclave stability, such as desalinization filter frames and medical devices. Foamed products are used in cabinets for business machines, computers, and copiers. Automotive seat backs are made by blow molding and replacements for metal parts by injection molding. [Pg.271]

PET s broad range of properties make them ideal replacements in certain applications for such metals as die-cast aluminum or zinc also in thermoset switches, relays, sensors, etc. Applications include packaging (particularly stretched injection blow molded beverage bottles and film), appliances, electrical/electronics, etc. PET finds applications in such diverse end uses as fibers for clothing, films, botdes, food containers, and engineering plastics for precision molded parts.118-120 A wide range of applications is possible because of the excellent balance of properties PET possesses and because the degree of crystallinity and the level of orientation in the finished product can be controlled. [Pg.89]

Automatic strippers have included many combinations of air blow-off, metal combs, and catch trays or chutes. Programmable robots are used for this type of work. These sophisticated units are also used to add inserts before loading the mold. [Pg.453]

Both injection blow molding and pinch tube processes are especially suitable for metallic pigments, because the expansion of the plastic during the blowing process causes further orientation of the metallic pigment parallel to the surface. [Pg.218]
