A concise survey of where the broad domain of optical information processing had got to a few years ago is in a book issued by the European Commission (Kotte et al. 1989), while a good overview of non-linear optical materials is by Bloor (1994). [Pg.291]

A series of theoretical analyses of the fluid and particle collection efficiency of cyclones were performed in the 1970s by Bloor and Ingham " and they have been found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. [Pg.1202]

Subject to the boundary conditions that must be imposed at the axis, at the inlet, and on the wall boundaries of the cyclone, Bloor and Ingham found that the solution for 4 may be approximated by the expression... [Pg.1203]

A proper representation of the effective viscosity is often problematic. Based on the Prandtl mixing length model for turbulence, Bloor and Ingham-suggest that the variation in p, should be of the form... [Pg.1204]

Therefore, Bloor and Ingham found that the collection efficiency of a cyclone for the p.article size d may be estimated by the following formula ... [Pg.1206]

Theoretical representation of the behaviour of a hydrocyclone requires adequate analysis of three distinct physical phenomenon taking place in these devices, viz. the understanding of fluid flow, its interactions with the dispersed solid phase and the quantification of shear induced attrition of crystals. Simplified analytical solutions to conservation of mass and momentum equations derived from the Navier-Stokes equation can be used to quantify fluid flow in the hydrocyclone. For dilute slurries, once bulk flow has been quantified in terms of spatial components of velocity, crystal motion can then be traced by balancing forces on the crystals themselves to map out their trajectories. The trajectories for different sizes can then be used to develop a separation efficiency curve, which quantifies performance of the vessel (Bloor and Ingham, 1987). In principle, population balances can be included for crystal attrition in the above description for developing a thorough mathematical model. [Pg.115]

The controversy continues, with no clear resolution in sight. Meanwhile, more and more governments move towards policies that insist upon the demonstration of cost-effectiveness as a prerequisite for approval for reimbursement (Maynard and Bloor, 1998). This chapter systematically examines the available data in this area and, by stratifying studies according to their validity, attempts to draw clear conclusions from the most cogent data uncovered. [Pg.20]

Recently, in a study of the various methods for doing proteins in amniotic fluid it was noted that values ranging up to 12% have been reported in literature. What was being measured in these cases was the turbidity and the presence of hemolysis in amniotic fluid. When the Bloor s reagent extract is applied, substantially lower and more consistent values were obtained (47). [Pg.132]
