Biological control agents products

The relevance of such use of enzymes to agriculture will be examined in terms of a) feasibility in crop resistance, b) compatibility with the concurrent use of biological control agents in insect pest management (IPM) systems, c) compatibility with products of gene transfers, and d) compatibility with human health. 

It is conceivable that changes in the (induced) volatile production in commercial crops could lead to the development of biological control packages in which biological control agents trained specifically for the modified crop are included. It will be exciting to see whether these approaches can lead to plants with altered (improved) predator behavior and to crops with improved biological control.

Towards this goal, the potential of the o-DPPB group to control diastereoselectivity in a carbon carbon bond forming reaction, following the hydroformylation step was explored [IS]. Enoates 17, were chosen as the test substrates since the stereoselective 1,4-addition of a methyl would provide a structural building block found in biologically important natural products of the polyketide class (e.g. antitumor agent dictyostatin 1 and the ionophore calci-mycin).
