Carry out all procedures at room temperature unless otherwise specified. Prime all Combi tubing with the appropriate assay reagent, empty the tubing back into the conical tube holding the reagent, and prime again to ensure adequate mixing. Decontaminate Bravo liquid handler and PHERAstar plate reader at the end of the assay day with 70 % ethanol. Dispose of tips, tubes, and plates in biohazardous waste bin. 

Place vials on ice in a chemical fume hood. Remove buffer and add 300 pL of cold (4°C) 1% osmium solution. Snap on cap of vial and incubate for 1 h at 4 C with gentle agitation on a rotary mixer. Note OSO4 is highly toxic and volatile. Perform all steps in a chemical hood. Do not breathe in vapors and do not allow contact with skin. Dispose of all used solutions in a chemical waste bottle that is maintained in the chemical hood. Dispose of all waste using procedures mandated by your institutional biohazardous waste/safety officer. 

Decant or remove the supernatant by pipette and discard as biohazardous waste. 10. Resuspend the bacterial pellet in 10 pL of PBS per animal to be instilled (e.g., if original volume was 6 mL, use 60 pL of PBS to resuspend bacteria) and vortex the resuspension on maximum speed for 3 s. 

For the chemical supply chain, the focus will be on biohazardous waste and the reduction of bioterrorism. Packaging and transportation policies will be transformed. For high-tech and electronics, it will be about waste and disposal. This will be an impetus for remanufacturing processes. 

Waste minimization methods used for chemical waste can be used to reduce or eliminate the chemical hazard of chemical-biological waste. Some laboratories that generate biohazardous waste have replaced disposable items with reusable supplies, which are disinfected between uses.

Minor spills that occur on a bench top can be wiped up with a decontaminant-moistened towel. The use of absorbent bench-liner will help contain small spills. These surface covers can be moistened with decontaminant after a spill and placed in the biohazard waste.
