Binders for tablets, granules and hard gelatin capsules

Binders for tablets, granules and hard gelatin capsules [Pg.67]

The main area of application of povidone K 25,30 and 90 is as a binder for tablets and granules, as well as hard gelatin capsules. Its use is independent of whether wet or dry granulation or direct compression is used (Fig. 36), as povidone acts as a binder in all these processes. [Pg.67]

The usual concentrations in which povidone is used as a binder in tablets and granules are given in Table 58. [Pg.68]

As povidone K 90 is a stronger binder than povidone K 25 or povidone K 30, the concentration given in Table 58 is about half that of the other two grades. This is confirmed in Table 59, which shows that the coarse fraction of a granulate increases and the fine fraction is reduced to a greater extent with povidone K 90 than with the other two types of lower mean molecular weight, for the same concentration. [Pg.68]

It can also be seen from Table 59 that there is hardly any difference in the particle sizes of the granules produced with povidone K 25 and povidone K 30. A similar relationship is found when the hardness of placebo tablets is compared. It can [Pg.68]
