In a pair of papers published in 2004 and 2005, Corbett, Otto, and Sanders described similar theoretical analyses of relatively simple DCLs, as well as the development and testing of a new tool for simulating DCL behavior, appropriately dubbed DCLSim [83]. The authors described the potential for DCL selections to yield something other than the fittest binder as the tendency of DCLs to maximize the binding interactions in the entire library [84]. As in the cases described by Severin, this tendency could be combated by careful choice of initial library conditions.

Polynrethane (PU) was first synthesized in the 1930s by German chemist Otto Bayer (1902-1982), who was trying to prepare a nylonfike fiber. PU is a versatile polymer that is used for rigid and flexible foams, bristles, coatings, fibers, and automobile parts, such as bumpers. Other synthetics are nsed in products such as stretchable fabrics and binders for paints.

The second most popular superhero of the day. Captain Marvel, faced a similar dilemma, but with one exception he had better writers. The Adventures of Captain Marvel and Whiz Comics provided the most imaginative comic book treatment of atomic themes for the entire postwar era. Many of the approximately five hundred Captain Marvel stories were written by former pulp fiction writer Otto Binder and usually drawn by master artist C. C. Beck. They combined their talents to create a kindly, often obtuse, even whimsical superhero whose sales eventually topped those of Superman in the late 1940s.
