Bigger purpose

Just the electrifying experience of so many people coming together for the celebration of excellence [at the international sales meeting. .. It just made me feel part of something bigger. My role served a bigger purpose. An important piece of a well oiled machine. 

These Big Store respondents were able to discern and feel connected to a bigger purpose (e.g., helping the company s footprint get larger). Employees felt a strong sense of inclusion and a sense of ownership in the fulfilled purpose. They clearly saw their roles in fulfilling Big Store s purpose.

So there must be other measures of value. The most obvious is gross sales volume the more a company sells in any market, the bigger it must be. A film like Hoop Dreams, its journalistic standards are impeccable. And yet it s not just a piece of journalism, it s something bigger, it s got bigger ambitions. Journalism makes use of characters for journalistic purposes. People exist in a story because they ve been shoved into the story to back up the point of the journalist, or as source material for the story. In documentaries, it seems to be the other way around. You go with the characters and then the story builds itself around them. 

Synthesis of polymers with special features that are stable for extended periods of time is a challenge, but the synthesis of polymers with special features that are intentionally unstable for some purpose is even a bigger challenge. 

Ease of data acquisition Whether the system is rule-driven or data-driven , some data has to be acquired, even if this is just to help the rule-writer determine appropriate values for the rules. Here linear prediction clearly wins, because its parameters can easily be determined from any real speech w aveform. When formant synthesisers were mainly being developed, no fully reliable formant trackers existed, so the formant values had to be determined either manually or semi-manually. While better formant traekers now exist, many other parameters required in formant S5mthesis (e.g. zero loeations or bandwidth values) are still somewhat difficult to determine. Articulatory synthesis is partieularly interesting in that in the past it was next to impossible to acquire data. Now, various techniques such as EMA and MRI have made this much easier, and so it should be possible to collect much bigger databases for this purpose. The inability to collect accurate articulatory data is certainly one of the main reasons why articulatory synthesis never really took off. 

Product safety experts can usually spot noncorapliant products visually in a matter of seconds or minutes without removing a product s cover. Minor discrepancies found on the outside of the equipment often mean that bigger problems are within. For example, over a two-year period the Finnish enforcement authority obtained over 1,200 products from stores and importers for market surveillance purposes. The inspectors selected products that appeared to have external deviations, such as wrong nameplate, incorrect plug or cord, user manual missing, or unknown trademark. In some areas of the world, castor oil and its laxahve effect are frequently mentioned in jokes. Although castor oil is not much used for this purpose aity more, it has found an even bigger role in modem life.
