Pharmacokinetics The pharmacokinetic properties of Infergen have not been evaluated in patients with chronic hepatitis C. Pharmacokinetic profiles were evaluated in normal, healthy volunteer subjects after subcutaneous injection of interferon alfacon-1 at doses up to 9 j,g. Plasma levels of interferon alfacon-1 at any dose were too low to be detected. However, analysis of Infergen-induced cellular products— induction of 2 5 oligoadenylate synthetase and (beta)-2 microglobulin—after treatment in these subjects revealed a statistically significant, dose-related increase in the area under the curve (AUC). 

OSHA also requires biomonitoring of workers for cadmium exposure. Medical surveillance is required for all workers if their urine concentration of cadmium exceeds 3 pg/g creatinine, the Beta-2 microglobulin exceeds 300 pg/g creatinine, or the cadmium in whole blood exceeds 5 pg/liter (29 CFR 1910.1027 [2005]).

Acute tubular necrosis can occur in the course of a hepatobiliary disease. In an aetiopathogenetical context, hypoxia, hypotension, nephrotoxins and so far undefined biochemical substances are deemed responsible. The outcome is a disruption in the reabsorption of sodium and water the urine is less concentrated (isosthenuria). There is a greater excretion of sodium (> 30 mEq/1) and of beta-2 microglobulin in the urine. Acute, yet in principle reversible renal failure can develop. Therapy thus consists of bridging the phase of insufficiency temporarily by dialysis.
