Benzoic benzyl ester

Ethyl Acetoacetate. -The e. planation of the manner in which this substance is produced has been given in the account of the preparation. The result was anived at, not by the iscila-tion of the intermediate compound formed by the union of ethyl acetate with sodium ethylate, but by analogy with the behaviour of benzoic methyl ester with sodium benzylate, which gave the same additive product as that obtained by combining benzoic benzyl ester with sodium methylate, showing that such combinations could occur,... [Pg.248]

Benzyl alcohol has the piopcities of an aliphatic alcohol, and not those of a phenol. On oxidation, it gives benzaldehyde and benzoic acid, and it foinis benzyl esters with acids or acid chlorides,... [Pg.300]

The incorporation of certain excipients in products is deemed to be undesirable. Examples are the inclusion of mercurial preservatives, the inclusion of benzyl alcohol in parenteral products for use in children, the use of benzoic acid esters in injections, and the inclusion of sulfites and metabisulfites in products in general. If it is intended to use any of these materials, then a full justification will be required. [Pg.650]

Furthermore, the mediator has been used for the bond cleavage of benzyl ethers, the oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde, the oxidation of toluene derivatives to benzoic acid esters, and the oxidation of aliphatic ethers [47]. [Pg.179]

Acidic alumina (6.2 g) is added to a solution of benzyl ester (0.110 g, 0.52 mmol) dissolved in a minimum amount of dichloromethane (1x2 mL) at room temperature and the reaction mixture was thoroughly mixed using a vortex mixer. The adsorbed material is dried in air (beaker) and placed in an alumina bath ill-side the microwave oven. Upon completion of the reaction as followed by TLC examination (7 min), the products are extracted successively into hexane-ether (4 1, v/v 2x5 mL) and metlianol-dichlorometliane (4 1, v/v 4x5 mL). Removal of the methanol extract, under reduced pressure afforded pure benzoic acid (0.058 g, 92%). The hexane-ether extraction removes only the byproduct, benzyl alcohol. [Pg.404]

Benzoic Esters.—Tafel and Friedrichs,2 by conducting the electrolysis in alcoholic-aqueous sulpnuric acid at lead or mercury cathodes, obtained methyl benzyl ether and the ethyl benzyl ether from benzoic methyl and benzoic ethyl esters respectively. Mettler,3 by a similar arrangement, obtained chiefly benzyl alcohol and some benzyl methyl ether from benzoic methyl ester. [Pg.212]

Esters.—The esters of benzoic acid are not of special importance. The methyly ethyl, phenyl and benzyl esters are found in certain plants... [Pg.682]

Which of the two is the cis form and which the trans form has not been determined. A third cinnamic acid, viz., iso-cinnamic acid, is also known, but the constitution of it has not been established. Cinnamic acid is found in nature in the resin storax both as the free acid and as the cinnamic alcohol ester, styrin. It is also found in Peru and Tolu balsams as the free acid and as the benzyl alcohol ester, the benzoic acid ester of benzyl alcohol being present also. Thus benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, cinnamic alcohol and cinnamic acid are all constituents of esters present in these plant resins. Allo-cinnamic acid, the geometric isomer, is obtained from coca leaves from which the alkaloid cocaine is also obtained (p. 896). When cinnamic acid is heated with lime it loses carbon dioxide and yields the unsaturated side-chain hydrocarbon st3rrene, or phenyl ethylene, CeHs—CH = CH2. On reduction it yields first cinnamic aldehyde, found in oil of cinnamon (p. 842) and then cinnamic alcohol. Both cinnamic acid and allo-cinnamic acid yield anhydrides. [Pg.699]

Successful polymer supported stereoselective Diels-Alder reaction was performed using immobilized enantiopure 4-(3-hydroxy-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxopyrro-lidin-l-yl)benzoic acid 12 as a chiral auxiliary [15]. The corresponding resin-bound acrylate derivate has been applied as the dienophile 13. Preparation of the precursor started with the combination of pantolactone 10 and the sodium salt of 4-aminobenzoic acid. Conversion into the corresponding benzyl ester followed. The obtained racemate was esterified with (lS)-camphanic acid chloride to a dia-stereomeric mixture to gain the enantiopure compounds by chromatographic separation. After subsequent saponification of the camphanic acid moiety and hydrolysis of the benzyl ester the (R)-enantiomer 11 was coupled to Rink amide resin (Scheme 12.6). [Pg.332]
