Barium peroxide BaO

Barium peroxide (BaO ) is a grayish-white dry powder that makes an excellent bleaching agent that can be stored in paper packages. Its bleaching qualities are released when mixed with water. [Pg.81]

Other oxidizers, including barium chromate (BaCrO,), lead chromate (PbCrO 4), sodium nitrate (NaNO 3), lead dioxide (PbO 2), and barium peroxide (BaO 2) will also be encountered in subsequent chapters. Bear in mind that reactivity and ease of ignition are often related to the melting point of the oxidizer, and the volatility of the reaction products determines the amount of gas that will be formed from a given oxidizer /fuel combination. Table 3.2 contains the physical and chemical properties of the common oxidizers, and Table 5.8 lists the melting and boiling points of some of the common reaction products. [Pg.145]

Hydrogen peroxide (HjOj) may be prepared in the laboratory by treating barium peroxide (BaO > with dilute sulphuric acid. Pure hydrogen peroxide is a pale blue syrupy liquid m.pt, —1 C and b.pt. 150 C. [Pg.102]

The only exception is barium which, in excess oxygen, forms a mixture of barium oxide, BaO, and barium peroxide, Ba02. [Pg.53]

Banum oxide. [CAS 1304-28-5]. BaO. white solid, mp about 1900°C. reactive with H20 to forni barium hydroxide. Barium peroxide, Ba02-8H20, white precipitate, formed by reaction of barium salt solution and hydrogen or sodium peroxide, yields anhydrous banum peroxide upon heating at 100°C in a current of dry air. Anhydrous barium peroxide is also fonned by heating barium oxide in air or oxygen under pressure (at somewhat over one atmosphere pressure) and temperature of 400°C. [Pg.172]

BaO p 2HNO3—> Ba (NO3) 2 P H20 and barium peroxide yields hydrogen peroxide ... [Pg.161]

Franklin et al. studied the in-situ anodic oxidation of barium peroxide (Ba02) in aqueous sodium chloride solutions containing cationic surfactants. An active intermediate, barium superoxide (BaO ), was formed which in turn converted carbon tetrachloride to soluble barium chloride and barium carbonate precipitate [45]. This work was extended to the destruction of 1,2-dibromomethane in aqueous solutions... [Pg.379]

Preparation, Properties, and Structure of Hydrogen Peroxide. When barium oxide, BaO, is heated to a dull red heat in a stream of air it adds oxygen to form a similar compound, BaO, barium peroxide ... [Pg.272]

Barium Dioxid—Barium peroxid—BaOi—168.8—is prepared by heating the monoxid in O. It is a grayish-white, amorphous solid. Heated in air it is decomposed BaOi=BaO- -0. Aqueous acids-dissolve it wth formation of a barytic salt and HjOj. [Pg.203]
