Which would be stronger (a) a chair made from PP or (b) one of equal weight made from cellular PP What advantage would a barium ferrite-filled PVC strip have over an iron magnet ... [Pg.495]

Magnaplas. [Bay Resins] Nylon 6, barium ferrite-filled permanent magnetic material. [Pg.221]

It has been established that the introduction of small amounts (0.5-2 wt%) of a ferromagnetic matter (barium ferrite or strontium ferrite powder) significantly intensifies the saturation of Cl in the polymer matrix. With this aim, extruded hose filled with the ferrite is treated in the contact zone... [Pg.115]

A study on barium ferrite particles in carrageenan hydrogels showed a modulus decrease of about 75 % (from 20 MPa) on magnetization at 800 KA/m [151]. Strains of about 0.2 % could be produced in these gels. This effect is clearly not the same as that seen in the iron-filled elastomers since it is larger, in the opposite direction and irreversible. [Pg.27]

Undoubtedly the idea of adding the fillers is to achieve reduction in cost. However, there are some special type of fillers which are used purely on a functional basis with an accepted trade-off in the cost reduction, for example, some fiber glass reinforcements for polyesters, barium ferrite as a magnetizable filler, metallic powders for electrical and thermal conductivity improvement. In fact all these specialty fillers are more expensive than general purpose fillers and in some cases even more expensive than the polymer which they fill. In any case, the cost-effectiveness of the filler ought to be determined. The objective should be to compare the full cost of the completed product with and without the filler. [Pg.27]

The viscosity vs. shear rate data obtained by Saini et al. [60] for 57 vol% of barium ferrite pretreated with different surface modifiers is shown in Figure 6.22(a). It can be seen that all titanates aid in reducing the viscosity of the filled polymer system while the silanes show a very marginal effect. Though there have been a number of articles in the literature [7,9,15,34,36,44,133-135] on the mechanism by which surface modifiers act, not all seem to show coherent agreement. Some have... [Pg.199]
