Spacer Bars Spaced Around Circumference as Needed for Strength. [Pg.33]

Catalyst Process T [°C] Ha- pressure [bar] Space-time-yield [m3 oil/h x m3 reactor vol.] Hydrogenation activity [mol H2/I1 x g active metal] Linoleate- selectivity [-] max. trans-fatty acid content [GC area-%]... [Pg.20]

Plant data on an 8-ft diameter rod mill showed that when smooth liners were replaced with lifter bars spaced 300 mm (12 in) apart, liner wear decreased by 13-fold, production increased 50 percent, and power per ton decreased by 34 percent [Howat and Vermeulen, Journal South African Institute Mining and Metallurgy, 86, 251-259 (July 1986)]. When a smooth-waUed baU miU was fitted with lifter bars the production of-75 pm material increased 8 percent and thepower/ton decreased 10 percent. Plant tests confirmed previous results [Mead-ers and McPherson, Mining Engineering, 16,81-84 (Sept. 1964)] that optimum lifter bar spacing is from 3 to 5 times bar height. [Pg.1609]

Example 5.1 A bar screen measuring 2 m by 5 m of surficial flow area is used to protect the pump in a shoreline intake of a water treatment plant. The plant is drawing raw water from the river at a rate of 8 m /s. The bar width is 20 mm and the bar spacing is 70 mm. If the screen is 30% clogged, calculate the head loss through the screen. Assume Q = 0.60. [Pg.263]

Bar rack—Also called a bar screen, this is a device composed of large bars spaced widely far apart to separate large objects from a flowing water. [Pg.299]

A water treatment plant drawing water at rate of 8 mVs from a shoreline intake is protected by bar screen. The head loss across the screen is 0.17 m. The bar width is 20 mm and the bar spacing is 70 mm. Assuming that the screen is 30% clogged and using the clear space opening in Problem 5.2, calculate the value of C. ... [Pg.302]

The determination of the tie bar spacing depends on the distance of the joint from the free edge of the rigid pavement (distance between transverse joints) and the slab thickness. The tie bar spacing when a 1/2-inch-diameter bar is used is determined from Figure 3.13 of AASHTO (1993) when a 5/8-inch-diameter bar is used, the tie bar spacing is determined from Figure 3.14 of AASHTO (1993). [Pg.621]

Tbe principal difiference between trayed and packed towers is that the packed tower uses metal rings instead of trays for vapor-liquid contact. The metal rings are dumped or packed into specific sections of the tower, called beds, and supported by cross grid bars spaced to prevent the rings from falling... [Pg.231]

In the top and bottom caps, the number of layers and spacings vary but the quantity of steel necessary is kept more or less the same. In top cap standpipe area, the bar spacings are rearranged to fit between standpipes while at the... [Pg.510]

Rocker Hardness Tester n An instrument made up of two circular stainless runners connected through traverse bars spaced 25 mm apart. Rocking frequency is calibrated by weights on a glass standard. It works on the principle that a soft surface dampens the oscillations of a rocking wheel more than a hard one. Reference ASTM D 2134. [Pg.635]

The arrangement of reinforcement should consider the clearance requirements for placing and vibrating concrete and the minimum bar spacing requirements of ACI 318. [Pg.39]
