Dr. Ruben was born in San Francisco November 5, 1913. He was graduated from the Berkeley High School in December 1930, and took his Bachelor of Science degree in 1935 at the University Of California. In 1936 he held the James Monroe McDonald scholarship in chemistry at the university, was a teaching assistant there in 1936-37, and was an Abraham Rosenberg research fellow in chemistry at the university in, 1937-38, receiving his Ph.D. in 1938. Donald Cairns obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Strathclyde in 1980 and after a pre-registration year spent in hospital pharmacy, he returned to Strathclyde to undertake a PhD on the synthesis and properties of benzylimidazolines. Kendall, Edward Calvin (1886-1972) American Biochemist Edward Calvin Kendall was born on March 8, 1886, in South Norwalk, Connecticut.
