ALWRs are expected to be deployed ia the United States and ia Asian counties. However, France will use improved versions of standard reactors, considering them to be amply safe and economical. The reactors were modified after the Three-Mile Island-2 (TMI-2) accident. The company Framatome that has built most of the reactors of France is associated with Babcock Wilcox ia the United States. The new Framatome 1500 MWe N4 PWR is an extension of the successful four-loop units of 1300 MWe originally designed by Westiaghouse. Full emphasis is givea to safety, ecoaomy, and rehabiUty. More severe design criteria than those ia the former model have beea adopted. [Pg.225]

Figures 2.8-1 and 2.8-2 from Vesely et al. (1983) show how the RAWR and RRWR measures vary for two PWR nuclear power plants (Oconee, and Sequoyah) based on their PSAs. This variation may be explained on the basis of different manufacturers of the plants (Babcock Wilcox and Westinghouse, respectively)... Figures 2.8-1 and 2.8-2 from Vesely et al. In this preface I also wish to highlight the contributions to the subject from some other publications, such as the more modem book Procedures of Industrial Water Treatment by J.N. Tanis and the NALCO Guide to Boiler Water Systems Failure, as well as the massive, but superb tome, Steam, Its Generation and Uses from Babcock Wilcox, which is now in its 40th edition. These are all excellent works. [Pg.1001]

The Babcock Wilcox Company is an operating unit of McDermott International, which has been supplying solutions to meet the world s growing energy needs. Recently, a bankruptcy voluntary petition was filed (2000) in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. McDermott announced Bankruptcy Court Action on B W s Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization, by the end 2004. However, on February 2006, the Company informed that it had exited from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and entered into its previously announced settlement. [Pg.292]

KBW [Koppers Babcock Wilcox] A coal gasification process developed jointly by the Koppers Company and Babcock Wilcox, intended to supply the synthetic fuels industry. The product is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Dry, powdered coal, oxygen, and steam are injected into the reactor. The reaction temperature is sufficiently high that the ash is molten it runs down the reactor walls, is tapped out as a molten slag, and is quenched in water before disposal. In 1984, seven commercial synfuels projects planned to use this process but it is not known whether any was commercialized. [Pg.152]
