B-Class F-Cell

In 2010, Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the first series-production car of the B-Class F-Cell vehicle. This F-Cell will contain the next generation fuel cell engine with a redesigned stack that is 40 percent smaller and produces 30 percent more power.

The respective concept was tested and proven in test stands as well as in several winter tests in Sweden with a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL, as shown in Fig. 4.30. 

Figure 4.45 shows the enhancement of the technology achieved from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class F-CELL to the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL.

A The B-Class F-Cell vehicle from Mercedes Benz is a four passenger sedan that accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 9 seconds. The car runs on hydrogen and its only emission is water.

Daimler is also starting limited deployment of its new B-class FCVs, planning to lease 200 to customers in Europe and the USA through a program that began in 2010 [55]. In 2011, Daimler successfully completed the F-Cell World Drive, in which three B-class FCVs drove over 30 000 km each through 14 countries on four continents, in an effort to demonstrate the vehicles capabilities and the need for infrastructure [56].
