Autoimmune disorder drug-induced

Alkaline phosphatase levels and GGT are elevated in plasma with obstructive disorders that disrupt the flow of bile from hepatocytes to the bile ducts or from the biliary tree to the intestines in condition such as primary biliary cirrhosis, sclerosing cholangitis, drug-induced cholestasis, gallstone disease, and autoimmune cholestatic liver disease. [Pg.254]

Different tumors with MDR protein overexpression (e.g., hepatomas, lung or colon carcinomas) often show primary (or intrinsic) resistance to cancer chemotherapy. In addition, cancer chemotherapy itself might induce the overexpression of these proteins, so that the MDR clones become less sensitive to chemotherapy (secondary drug resistance). Treatment failure due to MDR is also found in connection with conditions other than cancer, including some autoimmune disorders and infectious diseases [21-23]. [Pg.204]

Chloroquine-induced neuromyopathy is a complication of chloroquine treatment of autoimmune disorders or long-term use of chloroquine as a prophylactic antimalar-ial drug (12). [Pg.724]

Drug-induced autoimmune diseases, autoimmune-like disorders, and hypersensitivity reactions are a major concern and have caused the withdrawal of drugs from the market or restriction of their use. [Pg.219]

Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA). Acquired haemolytic anaemia mediated by autoantibodies against antigens on the organism s own red cell membrane. Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia may be idiopathic, secondary to lymphoproliferative, autoimmune (e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus), or chronic inflammatory disorders, postinfectious or drug-induced. Linear IgA bullous disease is an autoimmune subepider-mal disorder, characterized by a linear deposition of IgA along the blister base, with a predominantly neutrophilic dermal infiltrate. Most often idiopathic, a subset of linear IgA bullous disease is induced by drugs, and intravenous vancomycin is the best-documented drug that triggers it (71). The diagnosis can be confirmed by direct immunofluorescence (72,73). In some cases the blisters resolve only after withdrawal of therapy and in others glucocorticoid therapy is required. [Pg.3598]
