Absorption atypical

Figure 4.1 shows atypical absorption spectrum ([Ru(bpy)3]2+, bpy = 2,2 -bipyridine), which is the prototype inorganic photosensitizer and sensor. Note in particular the intense blue-ultraviolet (UV) absorptions and the wavelength independence of the luminescence efficiency. In the blue region, a 10 M solution would absorb over 90% of the light in a 1-cm path length. [Pg.72]

The molecular weight of 320,000 obtained for the muscle enzyme from sedimentation-diffusion data at 2-6 mg/ml and v = 0.75 (132) is to be compared with 270,000 obtained by Wolfenden et al. from s20,w = 11.1 S and D2 ,w = 3.75 X 10 7 cm2 sec1, and v = 0.731 calculated from the amino acid content (92). The rabbit muscle enzyme has a normal amino acid content, that is, no unusually low or large amount of a particular amino acid was found. Of the 32 cysteine/half-cystine residues per mole based on a molecular weight of 270,000, 6.2 were rapidly titrated with p-mercuribenzoate (92). Typical protein absorption spectra were reported for elasmobranch fish (126), carp (125), rat (127), and rabbit muscle enzyme (68). An E m at 280 nm = 9.13 has been reported for the rabbit muscle enzyme (133). The atypical absorption spectrum with a maximum at 275-276 nm observed by Lee (132) is indicative of contaminating bound nucleotides. [Pg.65]

In this chapter, we examine the analysis of both typical and atypical absorption prohles, along with enterohepatic recycling (EHR), which could affect both the bioavailability and the absorption profile of a drug in a population of subjects. [Pg.346]

The typical absorption profiles are represented by the first-order absorption and the zero-order absorption. Atypical absorption profiles can be described by parallel first-order absorption, mixed first-order and zero order absorption, or Weibull-type absorption. [Pg.351]

ATP-dependent ABC transporter family. However, it is atypical because it also contains a regulated chloride channel) In secretory epithelia of intestines, pancreas, lungs, sweat glands, and kidneys Cl enters epithelial cells through their basolateral surfaces using an Na+ + K+ + 2 Cl cotransporter and exits the cells through their apical surfaces using the CFTR channel. Absorptive epithelia also contain both the cotransporter and the CFTR channel, but Cl flows into the cells from the exterior surface, and the distribution of the cotransporter and CFTR between basolateral and apical surfaces is opposite to that in secretory cells.1... [Pg.1513]

Another example of a different type of correlation of structural to photophysical properties is shown in a study of a unique terbium compound [63]. This compound will be briefly discussed and is depicted in Figure 7.9 with its nonlinear emission properties with excitation at 800 nm. The photophysical properties are atypical and rather extraordinary due to the unusual molecular structure of the co-crystallization compound (4) of the organic chromophore and the terbium salt This compound shows both multiphoton absorption induced green f-f emission from the terbium ion as well as second-harmonic generation. However, unlike previously... [Pg.171]

It is rather atypical that a photochemical reaction will proceed in a single molecular pathway. Thus, several elementary steps are involved. Normally, the majority of them are dark (thermal) reactions while, ordinarily, one activation step is produced by radiation absorption by a reactant molecule or a catalyst. From the kinetics point of view, dark reactions do not require a different methodological approach than conventional thermal or thermal-catalytic reactions. Conversely, the activation step constitutes the main distinctive aspect between thermal and radiation activated reactions. The rate of the radiation activated step is proportional to the absorbed, useful energy through a property that has been defined as the local volumetric rate of photon absorption, LVRPA (Cassano et ak, 1995 Irazoqui et al., 1976) or the local superficial rate of photon absorption, LSRPA (Imoberdorf et al., 2005). The LVRPA represents the amount of photons that are absorbed per unit time and unit reaction volume and the LSRPA the amount of photons that are absorbed per unit time and unit reaction surface. The LVRPA is a property that must be used when radiation absorption strictly occurs in a well-defined three-dimensional (volumetrical) space. On the other hand, to... [Pg.230]

In liver cirrhosis, there are several changes reduction in LCAT (with cholesterol ester fall ), HDL and LDL as well as in VLDL, with a corresponding change in their distribution pattern occurrence of hypertriglycerid-aemia and atypical lipoproteins reduction in phospholipid synthesis (28), possibly with greatly impaired structure and function of the biomembranes. Hepatic extraction of bile acids is reduced with the result that they reach the peripheral circulation - even in the early stages of cirrhosis - and give rise to increased serum values. Bile acids have cholestatic and cytotoxic effects. When bile acid metabolism is markedly compromised, enteral absorption of fat-soluble vitamins is impeded, so that A, D, E and K hypovitaminoses may be observed. [Pg.730]
