He also completed three standardized self-report scales before and after therapy. He initially scored 28/63 (moderate depression) on the Beck Depression Inventory and 19/63 (mild anxiety) on the Beck Anxiety. Inventory (Beck and Steer 1987). The Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (Weissman 1979) aims to measure beliefs that predispose to depression (e.g. black or white thinking and perfectionism). His score of 187/240 before CBT was above the typical mean for both controls (113) and depressed individuals (147). [Pg.121]

His Beck Depression Inventory score fell from 28 to 13/63 (not clinically depressed) and his Beck Anxiety Inventory score from 19 to 4/63 (not anxious). His rating on the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale had dropped from 187 to 155/256, including an important shift in the belief If I do not do well all the time, people will not respect me from 7 ( totally agree ) to 3 ( agree slightly ). [Pg.130]

In Attitude Scaling, the coefficient a created by L.XCronbach is commonly used to test the reliability (Wen Ye 2011). The reliability is acceptable with its internal consistency reliability coefficient a is above 0.50. The internal consistency coefficient between each factor and indicator is calculated (Table 2) and the results show that most elements internal consistency coefficient exceed 0.6, indicating the reliability is acceptable. The a coefficient of both accident loss and the specific location exceed 0.8. The coefficients of the place of accidents and the gas levels are 0.5 which need optimizing on the expression of statements though it can be accepted. [Pg.674]

When it comes to measuring gender-based perceptions, the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales (FSMAS) survey (Fennema Sherman, 1976) has been one of the most widely cited instruments in the pedagogical domain. The complete FSMAS consists of 108 positive and negative statements (i.e., items), scored by conventional Likert scale, theoretically measuring a total of nine themes (or theoretical dimensions of different kinds of smdent perceptions) Attitude Toward Success in Mathematics Scale, Mathematics as a Male Domain Scale, Mother Scale, Mother/Father Scale, Teacher Scale, Confidence in Learning Mathematics Scale, Mathematics Anxiety Scale, Effectance Motivation Scale in Mathematics, and Mathematics Usefulness Scale. [Pg.301]

A modified version of the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales (FSMAS) (Fennema Sherman, 1976) was used to describe students gender-based attitudes toward learning PChem courses. Attitudes that include gender aspects were of interest because as mentioned earlier, there is a gender-based lack of interest toward science. [Pg.304]

The development and implementation of mFSMAS were carried out in three steps (1) Fennema-Sherman s Mathematics Attitudes Scale was translated to the Turkish language, and five experts in science education and the researcher worked independently at the outset and then at a consensus meeting to guide the final form of the language translation (2) to measure students perceptions in learning PChem II, every item was reworded in terms of physical chemistry instead of mathematics, and (3) the instrument was implemented via an online survey system. [Pg.304]

Differences between teachers showed great variation, while the overall scores for the attitude scales before and after in-service showed limited changes.
