Coll, R. K., Zegwaard. (eds.). (2011). International handbook for cooperative and work-integrated education. International perspectives of theory, research and practice (2 ed.). Lowell World Association for Cooperative Edueation. This handbook provides a comprehensive picture of work integrated edueation in its numerous guises and settings. It shows how theory and researeh have influenced the practice of work integrated learning. 

The report discusses the importance of chemistry in medicine, the need for cooperative research in this area, the lack of adequate facilities in the United States, the superior situation in other countries, and so on. No specific solution is proposed, however, just a plea for cooperative research (73). The efforts of the Chemical Warfare Service, with which several members of the Committee had been associated, were pointed to as an example of productive cooperative research between physical and biological scientists (as discussed by Daniel Jones in his paper in this volume). Henry Prentiss Armsby, chairman of the agriculture section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, urged the members of the AAAS in 1919 to avoid being stampeded by the success of wartime scientific research into an undue exaltation of the virtues of scientific cooperation and organization. Network of the Rainforest Alliance (SAN), and the ILO. All IO AS-accredited certification bodies are expected to develop their own social standards based on these broad IFOAM standards for standards. Some private organic standards (lOAS accredited or not) already incorporate social standards into their certification. Often producer associations or cooperatives in developing countries are subject to social certification via fair trade in addition to their organic certification (SASA 2005). 

AAAS. The American Association for the Advancement of Science was founded in 1848 and incorporated in 1874. Its objectives are to further the work of scientists, to facilitate cooperation among them, to foster scientific freedom and responsibility, to improve the effectiveness of science in promoting human welfare, to advance education in science, and to increase public understanding and appreciation for the importance and promise of the methods of science in human progress. Because water treatment programs are required to perform under many different operating conditions and in several different types of cooling systems, some standardization of the design, selection, and subsequent application process is inevitable. This standardization can be useful in making it easier for buyer and seller to agree on suitable treatments and to quickly establish the basic criteria for cooperation and program success, and also the estimated annual costs or estimated annual value (EAV) associated with treatment application.

To address these concerns, the following organizations experimented independently and also cooperatively The National Association for Safety with Gun Powder, the Japanese Merchants Association for Firearms and Gun Powder, the Yoshida Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, the Kobayashi Laboratory at Chuo University, and the Shirakawa Manufacturer at the Nippon Machinery Company. 

My major point at a recent symposium on Ehlers report at the American Association for the Advancement of Science was that they managed to make a nice statement on U.S. science policy circa 1987. Ehlers report suggests that we could all cooperate. That would be good. But we ve been cooperating since the early to mid-1980s. Second, the Ehlers report is almost completely oblivious to the emergence of the Internet. All it says about the Internet is that it s a neat way for scientists to exchange data.
