Assembly acceptability Component installation

Product specifications should specify requirements for the manufacture, assembly, and installation of the product in a manner that provides acceptance criteria for inspection and test. They may be written specifications, engineering drawings, diagrams, inspection and test specifications, and schematics. With complex products you may need a hierarchy of documents from system drawings showing the system installation to component drawings for piece-part manufacture. Where there are several documents that make up the product specification there should be an overall listing that relates documents to one another. [Pg.252]

In the development of the process automation and control system, the required testing of that control system and the factory-assembled components, and the process simulation program must be established with the general functional specifications. In an API facility, many of the control systems perform process functions that require strict validation. The functional description for the automation system should require a complete factory acceptance test (FAT). This test should simulate the entire process and process failures and alarms. The FAT should also check and verify that the control system cabinets and controllers operate as designed. The factory acceptance testing of the process automation system prior to shipment and installation in the field is a critical step in the validation and start-up of the facility. [Pg.160]

The expediting ends with the successful acceptance of the component. Important here is the completeness check (e.g. whether all nozzles of a vessel are installed in the correct nominal width and at the correct place). After the acceptance, the site manager can call off the components. It is advisable to provide a time buffer both between the acceptance and the readiness for call-off, and between the call-ofF and actual assembly, since problems may arise even during acceptance (e.g. in a pressure test, the detection of a weld seam which is not correctly carried out) and in transport (e.g. a vessel in transport gets caught under a bridge ). [Pg.109]
