Aspergillus fischeri

A Papua New Guinea sponge, Pseudoceratina sp., contains the unusual alkaloids ceratamines A (1142) and B (1143), and a biogenesis involving histidine and tyrosine is proposed (1173). The fermentation broth from Aspergillus fischeri var. thermomutatus has yielded CJ-12662 (1144) and UK-88051 (1145) (1174). The former metabolite was confirmed by X-ray spectroscopy and partial synthesis. A marine-derived Streptomyces sp. produces the novel pyrrolizidine 5-chlorobohem-amine C (1146), which was shown not to be an isolation artifact (1175). The Chinese medicinal plant Huperzia serrata has furnished 2-chlorohyperzine E (1147) (1176). 

The following organisms were used Cryptococcus laurentii, a yeast Aspergillus fumigatus gp. (Aspergillus fischeri), an enrichment culture isolate and a Fusarium sp. isolated in the laboratory. The fungi were stored as spore suspensions washed from Sabouraud s Dextrose Agar (Difco Detroit, Ml) with 0.1%...

Another substance P inhibitor was isolated from the mycelial extract — fiscalin B (10), which was originally isolated from Neosartorya fischeri by Sterling -Winthrop labs [46]. The fiscalins are structurally similar to the tremorgenic tryptoquivaline mycotoxins produced by Aspergillus clavatus [47] and A. fumigatus [48]. Fiscalin B was purified by reverse phase HPLC (Rainin C8 semipreparative, 50% methanol/water - 100% methanol) of the initial silica gel fraction 12.
