Dynamic array

In addition to insuring that every nab expression has the proper syntax or form, the compiler also checks that the semantics or meaning of every operation in every expression is correct. To do this nab associates three attributes with every value (literal, variable, or function return value). These are the class literal, variable, function call or expression the kind scalar, array, dynamic array or hashed array and the type int, float, etc. Each operator has restrictions on the attributes of its inputs or operands and the attributes of its result (if valid) are a function of the attributes of the operands. The nab compiler performs this checking by a series of lookups in a set of tables that are indexed by the operator. There are three tables (one for each attribute) for each operator. These tables are maintained in an easy to read and to update symbolic form which is automatically converted into the C code required to validate each operator s inputs and determine the attributes of its output. This makes nab easy to extend. [Pg.383]
