Semiflexible molded polyurethane foams are used in other automotive appHcations, such as instmment panels, dashboards, arm rests, head rests, door liners, and vibrational control devices. An important property of semiflexible foam is low resiHency and low elasticity, which results in a slow rate of recovery after deflection. The isocyanate used in the manufacture of semiflexible foams is PMDI, sometimes used in combination with TDI or TDI prepolymers. Both polyester as well as polyether polyols are used in the production of these water-blown foams. Sometimes integral skin molded foams are produced.

Polyurethane rubber (PUR). Not only in the thermosets (and the thermoplastics), but also in the field of synthetic elastomers polyurethanes have found a position, namely as a softer type. It is, again, formed from two components and is, with a blowing agent, processed into a foam. Polyether mattresses belong to this category, but also microcellular structural foams, used in bumpers, head- and arm-rests in motorcars, etc. 

Slush Molding. This is the reverse of dip molding. A female mold is used to give any desired surface finish on the product. The mold is preheated, plastisol is pour into it, and gels onto the surface of the mold. The excess liquid plastisol is poured out, and the internally- coated mold is heated to gel, then cooled to solidify the rubbery product, and the product is stripped out of the mold. Typical products are arm rests, head rests, road safety cones, anatomical models, dolls, toys, and auto parts. 

Use is made of integral skin foams. They are flexible urethane foams with a high density skin. They are used in applications such as steering wheels, arm rests, and protective covers that must combine a tough surface and a soft feel. 

Applications. Major applications of semi-rigid foams are in the area of automotive parts, especially in the interior of vehicles, for use as shock-absorbing pads, e.g., instrument panels, console-box lids, door trims, head restraints, arm rests, and sun visors. 

This material is primarily for parts such as headrest pads and arm rests, wherever an impact-resistant, slow-recovery, energy-absorbing product is required. 

Patients should refrain from smoking or caffeine ingestion for 30 minutes and be seated with the lower back supported in a chair and with their bare arm resting near heart level. Legs should be flat on the floor (not crossed). Measuring BP in the supine or standing position may be required under special circumstances (e.g., suspected orthostatic hypotension, volume depletion, or dehydration). The measurement environment should be relatively quiet and should provide privacy.

In order to test the type of foam, the slab is covered by a standardized woollen fabric. The igniting source is located at the junction of the seat and the back or at the corner with the arm-rest, or below the chair . The material passes the test if neither glowing nor flaming is observed 120 s after the extinction of the igniting source. 

The child is encouraged to stand or lie directly in front of the cassette with the arm resting at the side of the body. Distraction techniques may be used to encourage the child to look away from the side imaged. Initially one AP projection is imaged and if no fracture is seen the film is repeated using a 10° cranial angle.
