Area, production Eastern part

The eastern part of the production area is outside the classic zone. It starts in the Pantena Valley, in the northern part of the eastern districts of Verona, and ends in the eastern Illasi Valley. This area is bordered to the north at the Lessinia Plateau and to the south by Road 11, between Verona and Vicenza. [Pg.289]

One of the most clear and simple examples can be given for the Zn smelting industries in the south-eastern part (Kempen area) of The Netherlands here, Cd occurs as a by-product in a Zinc ore at a characteristic relative abundancy of 1 Cd 200 Zn. The analysis of a large number of elements, combined with the application of Factor... [Pg.188]

Rye [Secale cereal) is planted mainly in Russia and the central, northern, and eastern parts of Europe, where it can be grown instead of wheat because of its higher tolerance toward lower temperatures. However, the starch content of rye is also lower than that of wheat and the area harvested in 2007 was relatively small with 6 307 272 ha globally. Most of the production is used for bread baking, while... [Pg.63]

The total value of annual spruce and fir forestry production in the EEC is 5.3 x 10 /year. In Section 6 it was shown that the geographical soil climatic circumstances of central and southern Germany meant they would be particularly susceptible to pollutant emissions of central Europe. There is some evidence that damage caused by S02/ozone may also be taking place in the eastern part of the Netherlands, although the forested area is relatively small. Hypothetically one can note that if a further 20% of EEC pine forests became affected and experienced 10% per annum drop in output as a result, the cost would be 0.1 x 10 /year. [Pg.127]

The plant species biomass of Boreal and Sub-Boreal Forest ecosystems accumulates a significant part of living matter of the whole planet. This value is about 700 x 106 tons of dry weight. The biomass per unit area of different Forest ecosystems varies from 100 to 300 ton/ha and even 400 ton/ha in the Eastern European Oak Forest ecosystems. The annual net primary productivity, NPP, varies from 4.5 to 9.0 ton/ha (Table 1). [Pg.137]

The principal cultivation and production areas of C. edulis are in Ethiopia, particularly in Harar district, and in Yemen (72). It is also cultivated, to a lesser extent, on the slopes of Moimt Kei ra and grows wild in many mountainous parts of eastern Africa including South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Zimbabwe (72,75). The most debated historical issue about khat is whether it originated in Yemen and then spread to Ethiopia 74), or vice versa (75). [Pg.336]

As has been noted above, the Eastern Mediterranean is characterised by many eddies and jets (POEM, 1992). Indeed there are almost no areas of the basin which are not part of some mesoscale feature or other (Fig. 4.3). Yet the nutrient distribution (Kress Herat, 2001) and many of the plankton features such as bacterial abundance and activity and chlorophyll content (Yacobi etal., 1995) seem to be nearly constant across large parts of the basin except for those locations where they intersect major and persistent mesoscale features (Fig. 4.5). Under those circumstances major changes in nutrient distribution and productivity can be seen. The Rhodes Gyre and the Cyprus Eddy (aka Shikmona Gyre) are permanent features which always have an effect on the local biogeochemistry and have been studied in some detail. [Pg.108]

Lead-acid starter batteries are used in land, sea, and air vehicles. Batteries for vehicles are discussed in this chapter. The production of starter batteries approaches 60 million pieces. About 16 million pieces are used for motor vehicle production and about 38 million pieces keep the vehicles ready for operation as back-up batteries. A considerable number of imported and exported pieces play a part in this market. With these numbers Europe achieves about two-thirds of the U.S. production. The production in the Pacihc area is in the range of the European market. Markets with growth expectations are within the area of the former eastern block countries, the countries of the Middle East, India, China, and South America. [Pg.270]
