Apparatus modules

The magnetic regulators allow to synthesize in one module of the X-ray apparatus main cir-euit commutator, form converter, noncontact smooth ac voltage amplitude regulator, para-metrie stabilizer, ac supply filter, fimetional protection against the short-circuit in the X-ray tube and protection against emergencies in the control circuits. [Pg.431]

A schematic representation of a PR apparatus is shown in Figure 2. In PR a pump beam (laser or other light source) chopped at frequency 2 creates photo-injected electron-hole pairs that modulate the built-in electric field of the semiconductor. The photon energy of the pump beam must be larger than the lowest energy gap of the material. A typical pump beam for measurements at or below room temperature is a 5-mW He-Ne laser. (At elevated temperatures a more powerful pump must be employed.)... [Pg.389]

Modulation Spectroscopy has proven to be an important characterization method for semiconductors and semiconductor microstructures. The rich spectra contain a wealth of information about relevant materials, surfaces and interfrces, as well as device characteristics. In general, the apparatus is relatively simple, compact (except EBER), inexpensive (except EBER), and easy to use. One of the main advantages of Modulation Spectroscopy is its ability to perform relevant measurements at room... [Pg.397]

The mechanical behavior of the contractile apparatus of smooth muscle is also very similar to that of striated muscle. So that to the extent that the force-velocity curves reflect the interaction of mechanical force and the rate of enzymatic catalysis, the steps of the chemomechanical transduction cycles in the two muscles are apparently modulated in similar ways. Also relationships between the active isometric force and muscle length are very similar (except as noted above for shorter lengths). [Pg.183]

Superior hardware to the traditional apparatus is readily available and in some cases microprocessor intelligence is being built into dedicated modules for say temperature or pumping control. Integration of such units has the potential of full automation. [Pg.452]

Figure 3 is the plotted low resolution mass spectrum of halcinonide found using an AEI Scientific Apparatus Ltd, Model 902 mass spectrometer. Spectra were collected on frequency modulated analog tape and processed on a Digital Equipment Corp., PDP-11. [Pg.256]

The Golgi apparatus also appears to be an important regulator of intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis. It has a SERCA pump, as well as an unusual Ca2+-ATPase that can transport Ca2+ and Mn2+ with high affinity for Ca2+ uptake. Ca2+ release is mediated by a channel that is modulated by InsP3, similar to that in the ER. However, it does not seem to have ryanodine-type channels. [Pg.190]

How can phase-modulation fluorometry contribute to this health-care need It now seems possible to construct a lifetime-based blood gas catheter (Figure 1.3), or alternatively, an apparatus to read the blood gas in the freshly drawn blood at the patient s bedside. To be specific, fluorophores are presently known to accomplish the task using a 543-nm Green Helium-Neon laser,(18 19) and it seems likely that the chemistries will be identified for a laser diode source. The use of longer wavelengths should minimize the problems of light absorption and autofluorescence of the samples, and the use of phase or modulation sensing should provide the robustness needed in a clinical environment. For the more technically oriented researcher, we note that the... [Pg.7]

The approach of Motz et al. [55, 56] can be seen as a combination of the approach of Ginski et al. [48] (compendial dissolution equipment) and the approach of Kobayashi et al. [50] (open dissolution module). The most dominant advantage may be seen in the application of complete dosage forms and the application flow rates resulting in physiologically relevant concentrations. Furthermore, the apparatus appears to be robust being equipped with compendial dissolution equipment. However, the apparatus is still lacking a pH simulation unit. [Pg.442]

Apparatus. The HPLC instrument used was a Water s Associates model 6000A pump for the solvent supply, a U6K septumless injector and a radial compression module with standard Radial Pak columns. Immediately after the column a low dead volume tee was inserted and another 6000A pump was used to deliver a solution of OPT for the post-column derivatization of histamine. Twenty feet of 9 thousandths (id) coiled stainless steel tubing was used as a mixing chamber and held at 60 C in a water bath. The reaction mixture then passed through a Water s 420 fluorescence detector which was connected to a recorder. The detector was equipped with a 340-nm excitation filter and a 440-nm emmission filter. [Pg.303]

Ashkin and Dziedzic (1977) used the radiation pressure force of a laser beam to levitate microdroplets with the apparatus presented in Fig. 15. A polarized and electro-optically modulated laser beam illuminated the particle from below. The vertical position of the particle was detected using the lens and split photodiode system shown. When the particle moved up or down a difference signal was generated then a voltage proportional to the difference and its derivative were added, and the summed signal used to control an electro-optic modulator to alter the laser beam intensity. Derivative control serves to damp particle oscillations, while the proportional control maintains the particle at the null point. [Pg.29]

Research effort at Albany International Research Co. has developed unit processes necessary for pilot scale production of several species of reverse osmosis hollow fiber composite membranes. These processes include spin-dope preparation, a proprietary apparatus for dry-jet wet-spinning of microporous polysul-fone hollow fibers, coating of these fibers with a variety of permselective materials, bundle winding using multifilament yarns and module assembly. Modules of the membrane identified as Quantro II are in field trial against brackish and seawater feeds. Brackish water rejections of 94+% at a flux of 5-7 gfd at 400 psi have been measured. Seawater rejections of 99+% at 1-2 gfd at 1000 psi have been measured. Membrane use requires sealing of some portion of the fiber bundle for installation in a pressure shell. Much effort has been devoted to identification of potting materials which exhibit satisfactory adhesion to the fiber while... [Pg.380]
