Apparatus for intrinsically safe electrical circuits

As mentioned above, the main domain of application of intrinsic safety is remote control and monitoring instrumentation. More than two million intrinsically safe circuits for sensors and actuators alone are installed anew or modernized year by year. 

In the following, intrinsically safe apparatus are described, without any claim for completeness. 

The so-called simple electrical apparatus plays a special part. It is defined as 

An electrical component or combination of components of simple construction with well-defined electrical parameters which is compatible with the intrinsic safety of the circuit in which it is used 

Simple intrinsically safe apparatus are not subject to certification (see Section 6.9.5).
