Antimony(III) chloride forms colored 7t-complexes with double bond systems (e.g. vitamin A). 

Examples of reactions that have been carried out in these antimony(III) ionic liquids include the cyclizations of l,2-bis-(9-anthryl)-ethane (Scheme 5.1-12) and 1,2-bis-(l-naphthyl)-ethane (Scheme 5.1-13). Arsenic/antimony solution. Prepare a mixed solution containing approximately 115 mg arsenic and 160 mg antimony in 1 L by dissolving about 150 mg arsenic(III) oxide and 300 mg antimony(III) chloride in 6M hydrochloric acid. 

Antimony phthalocyanine can be prepared in a melt of antimony(III) chloride and phthalonitrile. The obtained product is of the formula [PcSb(Cl)2] SbClfi.164 PcSbX is formed by the reaction of metal-free phthalocyanine with antimony(III) chloride in l-chloronaphthalene59 or by the reaction of metal-free phthalocyanine with antimony(III) fluoride.165...

The ready separation of the hexachloroantimonate salts of various cation radicals is possible owing to their insolubility in diethyl ether (or hexane) under conditions in which the reduced antimony(III) chloride is highly soluble. In the case of EA+ SbClg", the isolated product is quite pure as determined by iodometric titration. However in many other cases, the Lewis acid SbCl5 effects...

Synthesis of sulfur tetrafluoride by fluorination of sulfur monochloride with elemental fluorine in the presence of antimony(III) chloride or phosphorus trichloride as a catalyst has also been reported 22-23 sulfur dichloride, which is formed as the byproduct, is converted back to sulfur monochloride in an absorber filled with granulated sulfur and then recycled.

Antimony(III) halides are chemically reactive, but less so than their phosphorus or arsenic analogues. Antimony(III) chloride forms a clear solution with water, and there is no evidence for Sb3+ ions dilution results in precipitation of insoluble oxychlorides of various compositions, e.g. SbOCl, Sb405a2, SbsOuCl2. Some reactions of SbCl3 are shown in Scheme 3. Antimony(III) fluoride is an important fluorinating agent. 

Aluminum trichloride is the most commonly used catalyst, although aluminum tribromide is more efficient.1 For the rearrangement of l-broino-2-chloro-1,L2-lrifluoroethane (3) to 2-bromo-2-chloro-l,l,l-trifhioroethane (4). none of the following Lewis acids are effective iron(III) chloride. iron(III) bromide, antimony(III) chloride, antimony(V) chloride. tin(IV) chloride, titanium(IV) chloride, zinc(II) chloride, and boron trifluoride-diethyl ether complex.1" ... 

Diketones.1 Trimethylsilyl enol ethers are C-acylated by acid chlorides in the presence of zinc chloride or antimony(III) chloride. No other Lewis acids are useful. The reaction provides a convenient route to 1,3-diketones in good to excellent yield. Addition of diethyl ether before quenching of the reaction catalyzed by ZnCl2 improves the yield but has no effect on the SbCl3-promoted reaction.
