Antibiotics griseofulvin

It was a wonderful environment in which to get to know other scientists in different disciplines. I remember particularly the organic chemists who were working on the antibiotic griseofulvin. Some of these were John Grove, Jake Macmillan and Dune (L. A. Duncanson, who was to enjoy a very fruitful collaboration with the inorganic group). There were relevant overtones to our researches, but a fundamental approach was encouraged. [Pg.8]

Zoxamide (1) [3,5-dichloro-N-(3-chloro-l-ethyl-l-methyl-2-oxopropyl)-4-methyl-benzamide, RH-7281, Fig. 16.1.1] was discovered and commercialized by Rohm and Haas Company in 2001 for control of Oomycete pathogens [1], and is now marketed by Dow AgroSciences LLC. The polycyclic antibiotic, griseofulvin, is derived from Penicillium griseofulvum and is perhaps the most important agent in the systemic treatment of dermatophyte infections (Fig. 2).
