In 1875 Pollacci (7) reported grape leaves treated with sulfur produced hydrogen sulfide gas. Recently it has been reported that hydrogen sulfide gas is produced by sulfur-dusted lemons and oranges (22). This gas which emanates from sulfured plants is also produced by the reactions of ingredients in the widely used lime-sulfur sprays. St. John and Groves (9) have excellently reviewed the chemistry of these mixtures. [Pg.250]

A good fraction of modern chemistry, which includes medicinal chemistry, derives some of its inspiration from a consideration of nature as a model. It is impossible, in this brief article, to describe more than a fraction of the efforts. For additional work in the spirit of biomimetic chemistry, the following is a list of some authors not yet mentioned whose independent work should be consulted. Even here, this list is certainly not complete Jacqueline Barton, Steven Benkovic, Albrecht Berkessel, Thomas Bruice, Jik Chin, Jean Chmielewski, E. J. Corey, Donald Cram, Peter Dervan, Erancois Diederich, Mark Distefano, Jean Frechet, Samuel Gelhnan, John Groves, Andrew Hamilton, Donald Hilvert, Barbara Imperiali, Makoto Komiyama, Jean-Marie Lehn, Arthur Martell, Julius Rebek, Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Alanna Schepartz, Dieter Seebach, Donald Tomalia, and Steven Zimmerman. [Pg.1213]

You receive a prescription for Mr John Williams, 3 The Grove, Astonbury from a local doctor, Dr Better. The prescription asks for temazepam tablets 20 mg X 100 1 at night. Also on the prescription is Fortisip 200 mL x 30. [Pg.226]

Finally, I wish to thank Dr Brian Cross and Dr John Grove who first introduced me to microbiological chemistry at The Frythe, Professor Tom Simpson FRS who read the manuscript and Dr Merlin Fox of the Royal Society of Chemistry for his help in the production of the book. [Pg.227]
