Anti-static Chemicals

AR-Al, AR-8, Antistatic chemical concentrate, Rogers Anti-Static Chemicals... [Pg.892]

Differences between the ingredients in a formulation may be essentially of a chemical nature, but also may be physical (such as the ranges of particle sizes)—and quite often both chemical and physical variations are found in practice. In order to match a particular material consistently it is not sufficient merely to know even the precise formulation in terms of polymer, plasticizer, heat stabilizer, filler, anti-static agent, colour, and so forth each of the components in the formulation must be supplied consistently to a tight... [Pg.3]

Conductive polymers fall into two distinct categories filled polymers, which are used for a wide range of anti-static and static-discharging applications, and intrinsically conductive polymers, which contain no metals but conduct electricity when chemically modified with dopants. [Pg.561]

Compounds dissipate a surface charge and can be processed by normal thermoplastic methods. Typical applications are boxes and in-plant handling containers for electronic components or chemicals where there is a risk of explosion from a spark. Medical products also increasingly have ESD specification, especially for use in an operating theatre. Packaging products such as flexible films also require some form of anti-static treatment, either by means of an additive, or by using external field generators. [Pg.144]

Radioactive sources are used for medical treatment of cancer (cobalt 60), for industrial X-rays of metal components, for thickness gauges, for chemical process control, and to anti-static plastic sheet. Radioactive isotopes are used in chemical tracer anafysis , while X-rays are also used medicalfy for diagnosis. [Pg.443]

A new anti-fog chemical with anti-static action has been developed by Herix Chemical Co. It is called Merix Anti-Fog. Spray quarts and gallons are offered for industrial uses on safety goggles and shields, windows of cold chaad>ers, instruments, freezer displays, store windows. A 4 oz. plastic container is available for in-plant distribution and as an aid for safer winter driving. Herix Anti-Fog is also used for eye-glasses, car windows, kitchen windows, and bathroom windows by industries, motels, stores, and car owners on all glass or plastic surfaces. [Pg.211]

New Herix Anti-Fog— has de-fogging and de-staticizing chemicals acting together so that one application on glass or plastic surfaces repels fog, mist, moisture condensation as well as dust particles. It is, of course, non-fl2umnable, also EPA registered. [Pg.211]

To maintain the performance of plastics, various additives such as plasticizers, antioxidants, anti-static agents and flame retardants are compounded into plastic products. Some of these plastic additives are leached from plastic product waste, and may threaten humans and wildlife. An example is the release of nonylphenols, or endocrine-disrupting chemicals, from plastic tubes that are employed for scientific research. This is described in a chapter entitled Here, There, and Everywhere in a well-known book on endocrine disruption, Our Stolen Future, by Colbom, Dumanoski and Meyers (1996). [Pg.196]

Fabric filters can cope with most industrial gas cleaning problems economically and efficiently. Filtering of hot gases before heat exchanging, catalytic oxidation in combination with bag filters, electrostatic precipitators in fabric filters with conductive filter media, dry scrubbing to bind the gaseous components, anti-static performance of filter materials, adhesive dust repellent finishes, and chemical protection of fibres are just some of the uses. [Pg.415]

Of the six purely-aromatic tetracyclic hydrocarbons, only chrysene, benz[a] anthracene and benzo[ft]phenanthrene possess even marginal activity but, as shown (Tables 4.1,4.2, and 4.3), many benz[a] anthracene derivatives are active, as are some benzo[c]phenanthrene derivatives. Substitution of one, two, or three methyl groups at 6, 7, 8, or 12 in benz[a] anthracene markedly increases activity [41]. Studies of N-mustard derivatives of anthracenes and benz[a] anthracenes [42] emphasise the parallelism between carcinogenic and carcino-static properties of poly-nuclear derivatives [43]. The marked influence of a small change in chemical structure is illustrated by the sequence of anti-tumour activities lO-ethyl-9-anthryl > 9-anthryl lO-methyl-9-anthryl for the change of meso substituent from Et to H to Me [42]. [Pg.167]

For simple Tf) -allyl groups that are static on the NMR time scale, the H NMR spectrum contains several characteristic feahues. The anti protons, which are closest to the metal and thus shielded, resonate at the highest field of the different aUyl protons, typically between 81 and 8 3. The syn protons appear between 8 2 and 8 5, and the central proton between 8 4. and 8 6.5. The coupling constant between the syn and anti protojas is often too small to measure, but they do couple more strongly with die central proton, with coupling constants of approximately 7 and 11 Hz, respectively. The relative chemicals shifts of the allyl carbons in the NMR spectra mirror those of the protons. The terminal carbons resonate between 8 80 and 8 90, and the central carbon resonates between 8 110 and 8 130. [Pg.106]

Anti stats Antistats or antistatic agents are finishes that can be applied to a fabric to aid in the dissipation of static charge buildup on the fibers. Antistats can be applied to the fiber as a temporary finish or added in the spinning bath prior to fiber formation to give a more permanent finish. Chemical crosslinking of an antistat applied to a textile... [Pg.200]
