Morphological and physiological studies of the olfactory system in insects have so far mainly concerned the sensory organs and antennal lobe. The majority of these studies have been carried out on the sensory cells, which are relatively easy to approach. Nonetheless, results of investigations on the central processes of the antennal lobes are available, and further research in that area seems promising.
