Antacid drugs

Antacids also have clinically significant drug interactions with tetracycline, ferrous sulfate, isoniazid, quinidine, sul-fonylureas, and quinolone antibiotics. Antacid-drug interactions are influenced by antacid composition, dose, dosage schedule, and formulation. 

This paper represents an effective study of the synthesis, characterization and antacid test of the disordered cancrinite and the intermediate phase. So, it was possible to synthesize the disordered cancrinite in soft temperature conditions. By XRD, IR and the BET surface area confirmed the synthesis of the disordered cancrinite and the intermediate phase. Neutralization tests indicated that disordered cancrinite was more effective than the intermediate phase. Furthermore, the disordered cancrinite was able to keep a pH plateau between 3 and 4 in higher extension than the intermediate phase. The enzymatic activity of pepsin was preserved when the tested solids were contact with it. Finally, these tectosilicates could be used as effective antacid drugs. 

Now the question that arises is, Why do above mentioned antihistamines not affect the secretion of acid in stomach The reason is that antiallergic and antacid drugs work on different receptors.

Some others act extracellularly at non-ceUular constituents of the body without involving a drug-receptor interaction. The simplest example is that of the neutralization of gastric acid by antacid drugs. In this reaction the excess of gastric acid is neutralized by a base such as sodium bicarbonate. This reaction is not considered as a drug-receptor interaction, since no macro-molecular component is involved. Other types of extracellular mechanisms can be illustrated, for example, by the action of heparin which prevents blood coagulation.
