ANSI codes

A product used under the jurisdiction of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the ANSI Code for Pressure Piping B31.1 is subject to any limitation of those codes. This includes any maximum-temperature limitation for a material or a code rule governing the use of a material at a low temperature. 

The design practices compiled in this volume were derived firom the literature of the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), the American Petroleum Institute (API), the ANSI Codes, a review of company specific literature including company design practices and general publications, and the author s personal notes compiled over the years as a consultant and practicing engineer, as well as an instructor to Venezuelan refinery and chemical plant operations.

There are seven common thermocouple types as identified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). They are identified by letter designation and are described in Table 2.33. There are four other thermocouple types that have letter designations however, these four are not official ANSI code designations because one or both of their paired leads are proprietary alloys. They are included at the end of Table 2.33. Although Table 2.33 lists the standard commercially available thermocouples, there are technically countless other potential thermocouples because all that is required for a thermocouple is two dissimilar wires.

This rating identifies which portable ladder is intended for the conditions nnder which the ladder can be safely used, highlighted in Table L.l. LBB analysis has been completed for SG - Sodium inlet nozzle using ANSYS code as per the conventional approach. Analysis is being repeated as recently documented in RCC-MR, appendix A 16.

In the two sections of the ASME/ANSI Code for Pressure Piping B3I that ate used primarily with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, both ANSI B31.1 and B31.3 use the maximum stress theory. B31.3 is unique in that it uses the maximum stress theory but permits allowable stresses to be established on the same basis as the ASME Code, VIII-2, which requires use of the maximum shear stress theory. The other sections of B31 also use the maximum stress theory. They require that in addition to the stresses caused by internal and external pressures, those stresses caused by thermal expansion of the piping are to he considered.
