Anode carbon host

CLASSIFICATION OF ANODE CARBON HOST 12.2.1 Conventional Carbons... [Pg.470]

One criterion for the anode material is that the chemical potential of lithium in the anode host should be close to that of lithium metal. Carbonaceous materials are therefore good candidates for replacing metallic lithium because of their low cost, low potential versus lithium, and wonderful cycling performance. Practical cells with LiCoOj and carbon electrodes are now commercially available. Finding the best carbon for the anode material in the lithium-ion battery remains an active research topic. [Pg.343]

Suitable polymer anodes have not been found instead, in the search for improved lithium hosts, lithium-inserting carbon materials have been developed and batteries produced, usually with a metal oxide or sulfide anode (hence they are not considered fnrther here). [Pg.462]

The function of the electrolyte membrane is to facilitate transport of protons from anode to cathode and to serve as an effective barrier to reactant crossover. The electrodes host the electrochemical reactions within the catalyst layer and provide electronic conductivity, and pathways for reactant supply to the catalyst and removal of products from the catalyst [96], The GDL is a carbon paper of 0.2 0.5 mm thickness that provides rigidity and support to the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). It incorporates hydrophobic material that facilitates the product water drainage and prevents... [Pg.368]

A variety of nanomaterials have been synthesized by many researchers using anodic aluminum oxide film as either a template or a host material e.g., magnetic recording media (13,14), optical devices (15-18), metal nanohole arrays (19), and nanotubes or nanofibers of polymer, metal and metal oxide (20-24). No one, however, had tried to use anodic aluminum oxide film to produce carbon nanotubes before Kyotani et al. (9,12), Parthasarathy et al. (10) and Che et al. (25) prepared carbon tubes by either the pyrolytic carbon deposition on the film or the carbonization of organic polymer in the pore of the film. The following section describes the details of the template method for carbon nanotube production. [Pg.554]

Approximately 10 in a million carbon atoms are converted to ions in the FID. The ions produced in the FID carry an electric current from the anode flame to the cathode detector. This electrical charge is the detector signal and response to individual organic compounds is directly proportional to the solute mass and is extremely sensitive. In the absence of CHO+ the current is zero. The FID is widely used as a GC detector and responds to most hydrocarbons that eluate from a GC column. Unfortunately, it is insensitive to hydrocarbons, H2, He, N2, 02, CO, C02, H20, NH3, NO, S, H2S, SiF4 and a host of volatile metallic compounds in gasoline, diesel, distillates, crude oils, natural gas, environmental pollutants and volatile organics in water samples. [Pg.222]

Porous anodic alumina (PAA) has a wide application in protection and decorative coating, electrolytic capacitors, host matrix for metal nanowire and carbon nanotube deposition. PAA consists of close packed near hexagonal cells with hollow channel at each cell axis. [Pg.253]
