Animal fats global production

Rendered beef, pork, poultry, and other animal fats are not well reported internationally, and global statistics are unreliable. Total production of fats in the United States by the rendering industry for 2000 is estimated at 4.18 million metric tons.68 Outputs of all rendering facilities captive to integrated broiler operations might not be included. Of the amount reported, 76 percent is inedible tallows and greases, 18 percent is edible beef or mutton tallows, and 6 percent is edible pork lard. [Pg.1582]

This annual volume is about one-third of the total U.S. production of fats and oils (10). No data exists on the global production of these rendered animal fats. [Pg.3057]

Fats and oils of vegetable and animal origin belong to the most important renewable raw materials used in the chemical industry. The fats and oils are mainly applied in human alimentation only 10% of the oils are converted into technical products. The total global market for fats and oils amounts to about 130 million tonnes. Soybean oil (31 million tonnes per year), a by-product of soybean flour production, and palm oil (31 million tonnes per year) are the most important fatty raw materials worldwide. Animal fats (22 million tonnes per year) arise as by-products of meat fabrication and processing and are used for nutrition and technical purposes. [Pg.77]

Biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters) is an alternative and renewable energy source, the development of which is hoped to reduce global dependence on petroleum, as well as air pollution. Biodiesel generated Ifom a variety of vegetable oils and animal fats has characteristics similar to those associated with petro-diesel, including viscosity, volumetric heating value, cetane number, and flash point [1-3]. Several processes have thus far been developed for the production of biodiesel via acid-, alkali-, and enzyme-catalyzed... [Pg.637]

Poultry fat production rates are difficult to determine, because there are no formal governmental talleys for this commodity. U.S. industry sources estimate current annual production of rendered poultry fat in that country to be 900,000 metric tons, or about one-tenth of global tallow production (61). This probably represents a sizeable proportion of global poultry fat production. Presently most of this goes into animal feeds. Historically this was the poultry feed market, although recently there has been an increase in use in other animal feeds as well. [Pg.226]
