Aniba

Bois de Rose. Bois de rose oil is obtained by steam distillation of wood chips from South American rosewood trees, Aniba rosaeodora. The tree, a wild evergreen, grows mainly in the Amazon basin. The oil is used as obtained in perfumery for its sweet, woody-floral odor and as a source of linalool [78-70-6] (3), which it contains to the extent of 70%. Linalool distilled from bois de rose oil is also used directly in perfumery and for conversion to esters, eg, the acetate (1). [Pg.76]

Other examples in the Gottheb and Kubitzki (1983) paper, following similar statistical methodology and logic, concern chemical changes in the evolution of Aniba (Lauraceae) in the Amazon, and associated river basins and relationships among genera of Papilionoideae as a function of their accumulated alkaloids. These are complex examples that would repay careful study by interested readers. [Pg.219]

The Lauraceae is a family from which relatively few isoprenylated chalcones have been reported, and only one new example, linderol A (40), from the bark of Linder a umbellata, is listed in Table 16.2. In this compound, the B-ring is unsubstituted (Figure 16.7), a common feature of Lauraceae chalcones. Several other unusual monoterpene-substituted chalcones have been reported previously from the Lauraceae genera Aniba and Lindera. The unusual structure of linderol A (40), in which the A-ring is functionalized by a cyclized monoterpenyl substituent, prompted the first total synthesis of this molecule. [Pg.1021]

Bois de Rose Oil occurs as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a slightly camphoraceous, pleasant, floral odor. It is the volatile oil obtained by steam distillation from the chipped wood of Aniba rosaeodora var. amazonica Ducke (Fam. Lau-raceae). The oils from the coastal region of Brazil and the Amazon valley tend to differ in odor and in linalool content from that produced in the Loreto province of Peru. It is soluble in most fixed oils and in propylene glycol. It is soluble in... [Pg.51]
