Angle of repose 404,

Calculate the angle of repose for a solid block on an inclined plane if the coefficient of friction is 0.52. [Pg.458]

Typical bulk density, loose, 881—929 kg/m angle of repose, 28—32 degrees. [Pg.230]

Fluidization, or fluidizing, converts a bed of solid particles into an expanded, suspended mass that has many properties of a liquid. This mass has zero angle of repose, seeks its own level, and assumes the shape of the containing vessel. [Pg.1560]

In one modification, the pusher plate consists of a conical screen with an angle shghtly greater than the angle of repose of the cake sohds. This accelerates the feed shiny and provides extra area for bulk drainage, permitting operation over a wider range of feed concentrations. [Pg.1738]

Plow chaiacterlstic.s. Angle of repose and flowability are measurable charac teristics for which standard tests are available (e.g., ASTM Test B213-48, Flow Rate of Metal Powders, etc.). A steeper angle of repose would indicate less flowability. The term Hubricity has sometimes been used for solid particles to correspond roughly to viscosity of a fluid. [Pg.1762]

If there are smeary particles which have an almost pastelike behavior and barely flow (high angle of repose), frictional anchorage of these onto the other particles in the mixture may be necessary in order to achieve good mixing. [Pg.1763]

Angle of repose is the angle at which a material will rest on a pile. It is useful for determining the capacity of a bin or a pile. The angle of the cone that develops at the top of the pile when a bin is being filled will be somewhat flatter than the angle of repose because of the effect of impact. [Pg.1935]

Until Jenike developed the rationale for storage-vessel design, a common criterion was to measure the angle of repose, use this value as the hopper angle, and then fit the bin to whatever space was available. Too often, bins were designed from an architectural or structural-engineering viewpoint rather than from the role they were to play in a process. Economy of space is certainly one vahd criterion in bin design, but others must be considered equally as well. Table 21-14 compares the principal characteristics of mass-flow and funnel-flow bins. [Pg.1935]

The commercial dry alum most often used in wastewater treatment is known as filter alum, and has the approximate chemical formula A 12(804)3 T4H2O and a molecular weight of about 600. Alum is white to cream in color and a 1 percent solution has a pH of about 3.5. The conunercially available grades of alum and their corresponding bulk densities and angles of repose are given in Table 1. [Pg.91]

In addition to the physical properties just described there are those properties which affect the flowability of the material. Specifically, these properties are the material s angle of repose, angle of internal friction, and the angle of slide. [Pg.145]

The angle of repose is defined as the angle between a line of repose of loose material and a horizontal plane. Its value depends on the magnitude of friction and adhesion between particles and determines the mobility of loose solids, which is a critical parameter in designing conical discharge and feeding nozzles and in... [Pg.145]

Figure 3. Shows angle of repose for granular solids. Figure 3. Shows angle of repose for granular solids.
The angle of repose is sensitive to the conditions of the supporting surface the smoother the surface, the smaller the angle. The angle may also be reduced by vibrating the supporting surface. [Pg.147]

The angle of internal friction, a, is defined as the equilibrium angle between flowing particles and bulk or stationary solids in a bin. Figure 4 illustrates the definition. The angle of internal friction is greater than the angle of repose. [Pg.147]
