The analysis of soils and plant material are common examples used to demonstrate ICP applications. Dahlquist and Knoll(43) compared the preparation and ICP analyses of botanicals (16 elements) and soils (11 elements) with few exceptions the ICP values for the CII botanicals were in excellent agreement with the assigned values, and the soil analyses were in excellent agreement with FAA analyses of soil digests. )ones( 4) reported the analysis of 17 elements in plant material and soils but confirmation of the two analyses was not given. Alder, et. aJ.(75) describe the unique analysis of ammonia-nitrogen in soils by gas evolution into an ICP no interferences were observed from the concomitants evaluated and acceptable recoveries were obtained. Irons et. al.(76) compared the ICP analyses of 13 elements in NBS orchard leaves and bovine liver to the data obtained by FAA and energy dispersive x-ray. [Pg.126]

Tecator Ltd. [16] have described a flow injection analysis method for the determination of 0.2 -1.4 mg/1 (as NH3N) of ammonia nitrogen in soil samples extractable by 2 M potassium chloride. The soil suspension in 2 M potassium chloride is centrifuged and filtered and introduced into the flow injection system for the analysis of ammonia (and nitrate) one parameter at a time. Ammonia is determined by the gas diffusion principle, in which a PTFE membrane is mounted in the gas diffusion cell. [Pg.29]

The ammonia synthesis reaction is one of the most widely studied reactions and it has been discussed previously in this text. (See Example 1.1.1, Table 5.2.1, and Section 5.3.) In this section, results from the microkinetic analysis of ammonia synthesis over transition metal catalysts containing either iron or mthenium will be presented. [Pg.246]

A microkinetic analysis of ammonia synthesis over transition metals is presented in Section 7.3. Use the results of that analysis to explain how adsorbed nitrogen atoms (N ) can be the most abundant reaction intermediate on iron catalysts even though dissociative chemisorption of N2 is considered the rate-determining step. [Pg.258]

The standardization of ammonia caramek presents a special task. In the course of the manufacture of caramek in the presence of ammonia and ammonium compounds, 4(S)-methylimidazole is formed, and it is neurotoxic. Its content " in caramel is limited by the Food Laws of several countries (for instance, in Austria and the United Kingdom ) and by the WHO r jdations (see also articles by Thier and Wood ). (The specification and analysis of ammonia caramek manufactured in the United... [Pg.208]

Determining low level concentrations of atmospheric ammonia in the presence of ammonium salts is difficult. Recently, investigators have been establishing new methods for the analysis of ammonia in the presence of ammonium compounds (see Chapter 7, Anal5riical Methods). If highly accurate values for low levels of ammonia are necessary, then a re-evaluation of older literature values might be necessary. [Pg.155]

Tashiro s Indicator. The stock solution is made by mixing 200 ml. of 1 per cent, alcoholic methyl red with 50 ml. of 0-1 per cent, alcoholic methylene blue. Both dyes must be dissolved in pure alcohol. For use, 1 part of stock solution is mixed with 1 part of alcohol and 2 parts of distilled water. This is an example of a screened indicator, or one in which the colour change is made more distinct by addition of a second pigment (methylene blue) to cut out part of the spectrum. The indicator is used in the Conway methods for the micro-analysis of ammonia and urea. [Pg.461]
