Anthropometric measurements are gross measurements of body cell mass used to evaluate LBM and fat stores. The most common measurements are weight, height, limb size (e.g., skinfold thickness and midarm muscle, wrist, and waist circumferences), and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). 

There are two major types of weaknesses associated with meta-analysis. Bias and heterogeneity. When planning a clinical trial every effort is made to minimise the impact of bias on the results. For example, clinicians and patients are kept unaware of the treatment being used for each individual patient, so-called double-blind studies and patients are randomly allocated to a treatment. The wall-jet continuous flow system is readily modified to discrete injection mode as shown in Fig. 16.4. This is the electrochemical version of a general discrete injection technique known as batch injection analysis (BIA) [31] and is a hybrid between flow injection analysis and wall-jet in continuous flow.

Another important application of the supramolecular porphyrin films is in the determination of drugs (e.g., acetaminophen in pharmaceutical formulations). This work was recently performed (287) by means of batch injection analysis (BIA) utilizing amperometric detection with glassy carbon electrodes modified with [Co (4-TRPyP)](CF3S03)5 films. 

It is a feature of current developments in mass spectrometry that this method of analysis can be coupled or interfaced with other techniques. The interfacing may in fact be with further MS equipment (MS/MS), or with various separation techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (LC/MS), gas chromatography (GC/MS), electrophoresis, particularly high-resolution capillary electrophoresis (CE/ MS), and biomolecular interaction analysis (BIA/MS) (Krone 1997). 

Biomolecular interaction analysis (BIA) is a relatively new technique which enables the detection of biomolecules and the monitoring of interactions between two or more species to be carried out in real time, without the use of labels. The detection principle used depends on the phenomenon of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). 

The parameters of interest in body composition analysis (bioelectric impedance analysis, BIA) are (a) TBW, (b) extracellular/intracellular fluid balance, (c) muscle mass, and (d) fat mass. Application areas are as diversified as sports, medicine, nutrition, and fluid balance in renal dialysis and transplantations. 

Business impact analysis (BIA) A formal study of the impact of a risk or multiple risks on a specific business. A properly conducted BIA becomes critical to the business recovery plan.
