Obtain the sensor amplifier module board from your instructor, and examine it closely as follows. Notice the outlined horizontal box in the top center of the board—it is labeled instrumentation amplifier. Notice the symbol of an amplifier in this box (refer to Figure 6.10). Also, notice the inputs to the amplifier (labeled P14 and P15). These are sockets for the wires that will bring the input signals to the amplifier. It is the difference between these two signals that is amplified. The output of the amplifier (the amplified signal) is connected to sockets P19 and P20. Wires inserted into these sockets allow us to observe the amplified signal with a voltmeter. [Pg.171]

These examples are sufficient to form the basis of the discussion of the nature of cations and anions in aqueous solutions. In aqueous solution, ions are stabilized by their interaction with the solvent they become h>drated and this slate is indicated in equations by the (a< ) symbolism. During the summer of 1998, after Dr. Henderson celebrated his ninety-fifth birthday, I proposed to him that his 1987 Splendor Solis videotape might serve as the basis for a small book.7 He was delighted with this idea. Biotelemetry is one way to provide this kind of isolation. In conjunction with battery-powered amplifiers, biotelemetry can be a very effective way to reduce electromagnetic interference in biopotential recordings since it can be isolated from ground reference. This is depicted in Fig. 17.30. Here, the isolated system reference is shown by the triangle symbol rather than the segmented lines of earth ground. [Pg.419]

The common element in all these diverse examples of the amplification of violence is that an adequate medium of communication must be present for spreading the hostile belief and mobilizing potential participants.
