Ammonium carbonate sulfate

In the commonly used Welland process, calcium cyanamide, made from calcium carbonate, is converted to cyanamide by reaction with carbon dioxide and water. Dicyandiamide is fused with ammonium nitrate to form guanidine nitrate. Dehydration with 96% sulfuric acid gives nitroguanidine which is precipitated by dilution. In the aqueous fusion process, calcium cyanamide is fused with ammonium nitrate ia the presence of some water. The calcium nitrate produced is removed by precipitation with ammonium carbonate or carbon dioxide. The filtrate contains the guanidine nitrate that is recovered by vacuum evaporation and converted to nitroguanidine. Both operations can be mn on a continuous basis (see Cyanamides). In the Marquerol and Loriette process, nitroguanidine is obtained directly ia about 90% yield from dicyandiamide by reaction with sulfuric acid to form guanidine sulfate followed by direct nitration with nitric acid (169—172). [Pg.16]

Synthetic manganese carbonate is made from a water-soluble Mn (IT) salt, usually the sulfate, by precipitation with an alkafl or ammonium carbonate. The desired degree of product purity determines the quaUty of manganese sulfate and the form of carbonate to be used. For electronic-grade material, where the content of K O and Na20 cannot exceed 0.1% each, the MnSO is specially prepared from manganese metal, and ammonium bicarbonate is used (26) (see Electronic materials). After precipitation, the MnCO is filtered, washed free of excess carbonate, and then, to avoid undesirable oxidation by O2, dried carefljlly at a maximum temperature of 120°C. [Pg.505]

Some companies have used the Merseburg process to manufacture ammonium sulfate from gypsum, but the process is only economically attractive where sulfur is unavailable or very expensive (32), and is thus not used in the United States. Ammonium carbonate, formed by the reaction of ammonia and carbon dioxide in an aqueous medium, reacts with suspended, finely ground gypsum. Insoluble calcium carbonate and an ammonium sulfate solution are formed. [Pg.368]

Carbonates. Basic zirconium carbonate [37356-18-6] is produced in a two-step process in which zirconium is precipitated as a basic sulfate from an oxychloride solution. The carbonate is formed by an exchange reaction between a water slurry of basic zirconium sulfate and sodium carbonate or ammonium carbonate at 80°C (203). The particulate product is easily filtered. Freshly precipitated zirconium hydroxide, dispersed in water under carbon dioxide in a pressure vessel at ca 200—300 kPa (2—3 atm), absorbs carbon dioxide to form the basic zirconium carbonate (204). Washed free of other anions, it can be dissolved in organic acids such as lactic, acetic, citric, oxaUc, and tartaric to form zirconium oxy salts of these acids. [Pg.437]

Allied-Signal Process. Cyclohexanone [108-94-1] is produced in 98% yield at 95% conversion by liquid-phase catal57tic hydrogenation of phenol. Hydroxylamine sulfate is produced in aqueous solution by the conventional Raschig process, wherein NO from the catalytic air oxidation of ammonia is absorbed in ammonium carbonate solution as ammonium nitrite (eq. 1). The latter is reduced with sulfur dioxide to hydroxylamine disulfonate (eq. 2), which is hydrolyzed to acidic hydroxylamine sulfate solution (eq. 3). [Pg.429]

Ammonium cyanide may be prepared in solution by passing hydrogen cyanide into aqueous ammonia at low temperatures. It may also be prepared from barium cyanide and ammonium sulfate, or calcium cyanide with ammonium carbonate. A) A solution of (SMI (320 mg) in trifluoroacetic acid (7 ml) was kept under nitrogen at room temperature for 15 minutes.
