Amino globulin

Albumin (69 kDa) is the major protein of human plasma (3.4-4.7 g/dL) and makes up approximately 60% of the total plasma protein. About 40% of albumin is present in the plasma, and the other 60% is present in the extracellular space. The liver produces about 12 g of albumin per day, representing about 25% of total hepatic protein synthesis and half its secreted protein. Albumin is initially synthesized as a preproprotein. Its signal peptide is removed as it passes into the cisternae of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and a hexapeptide at the resulting amino terminal is subsequently cleaved off farther along the secretory pathway. The synthesis of albumin is depressed in a variety of diseases, particularly those of the liver. From amino acid compositions, evaluations o7" the nutritional potentials of cucurbit meals and globulins can be calculated according to FA0/WH0 (54). The A E ratios, which are the amounts of each essential amino acid relative to the total amount of essential amino acids, are shown in Table II. These data indicate that, like most other oilseeds, cucurbit seeds are deficient in lysine and sulfur-containing amino acids. However, sulfur-containing amino acids are considerably high in CitrullI us colocynthis (egusi, ancestral watermelon) seed protein and exceed the suggested level in FA0/WH0 reference protein (55).

The thyroid hormone thyroxine (tetraiodo-thyronine, T4) and its active form triiodothyronine (T3) are derived from the amino acid tyrosine. The iodine atoms at positions 3 and 5 of the two phenol rings are characteristic of them. Post-translational synthesis of thyroxine takes place in the thyroid gland from tyrosine residues of the protein thyro-globulin, from which it is proteolytically cleaved before being released, iodothyronines are the only organic molecules in the animal organism that contain iodine. They increase the basal metabolic rate, partly by regulating mitochondrial ATP synthesis, in addition, they promote embryonic development. 

The maximum adsorption (deposition) of three proteins on rhombohedral hematite (SA = 19 m g ) ranged from 5 to 20 mg m (Johnson and Matijevic, 1992 a), and, for ovalbumin and y-globuline occurred near their iep 4.7 and 6.8, respectively. For lysozyme, however, the highest adsorption occurred at pH 9, much below its iep (11.0) and was probably due to strong intermolecular association of the protein (minimum solubility) at this pH. Protein uptake may depend on the number and kind of amino acids in the protein as well was on their association and conformational behaviour. 

Albumins contain no glycine, whereas globulins contain this amino acid. Their differentiation on physical grounds is thus borne out by chemical analysis.

In our studies the ninhydrin-reaction- revealed a number of new fractions, one of which is fluorescent. There are two fractions with a mobility greater than albumin, and two with a mobility lower than y-globulin (Fig. 62b). Some of these are present in many sera, some are rare. They are present in the ultrafiltrate of serum where also a central fraction can be seen, which has the mobility of the y-globulin. They are also present in normal cerebrospinal fluid and were found in hemoglobin preparations. It is not clear if only amino acids are involved, because larger molecules also react with ninhydrin. 

One of the earliest published attempts to create antibodies with catalytic activity had as its goal the generation of a transaminase.
