Penetrating the mysteries of deep space, beyond the range of optical instruments, the 1000-foot-diameter Aericibo Dish, built into a mountain valley in Puerto Rico, detects energy emissions in the radio spectrum. The antenna platform, supported by 3 -inch steel cables and weighing 600 tons, hangs 500 feet above the dish and is held to less than 1-inch sway. No wonder, then, 93 percent of global CEOs surveyed believe sustainability issues are critical to their company s future success, according to a recent presentation by Tom Cecich, vice president of the American Society of Safety Engineers Council on Professional Affairs.
