Aluminum Nitrate Nonahydrate

Aluminum nitrate is available commercially as aluminum nitrate nonahydrate [7784-27-2], A1(N02)3 9H20. It is a white, crystalline material with a melting point of 73.5°C that is soluble in cold water, alcohols, and acetone. Decomposition to nitric acid [7699-37-2], HNO, and basic aluminum nitrates [13473-90-0], A1(0H) (N03) where x + = 3, begins at 130°C, and dissociation to aluminum oxide and oxides of nitrogen occurs above 500°C. [Pg.149]

Aluminum nitrate nonahydrate is prepared by dissolving aluminum or aluminum hydroxide in dilute nitric acid, and crystaUi2ing the product from the resulting aqueous solution. It is made commercially from aluminous materials such as bauxite. Iron compounds may be extracted from the solution with naphthenic acids (21) before hydrate precipitation. In the laboratory it is prepared from aluminum sulfate and barium nitrate. [Pg.149]

Many ionic compounds can have water molecules incorporated into their solid structures. Such compounds are called hydrates. To emphasize the presence of discrete water molecules in the chemical structure, the formula of any hydrate shows the waters of hydration separated from the rest of the chemical formula by a dot. A coefficient before H2 O indicates the number of water molecules in the formula. Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate is a good example. The formula of this beautiful deep blue solid is C11SO4 5 H2 O, indicating that five water molecules are associated with each CuSOq unit. Upon prolonged heating, CuSOq 5 H2 O loses its waters of hydration along with its color. Other examples of hydrates include aluminum nitrate nonahydrate, A1 (N03)3 9 H2 O,... [Pg.145]

Other metallic elements form ionic compounds with cation charges ranging from -F1 to + 3. Aluminum nitrate nonahydrate, A1 (N03)3 9 H2 O, is composed of cations, NO3 anions, and water molecules. Silver nitrate (AgNO ), which contains Ag cations, is a soluble silver salt that is used in silver plating. [Pg.550]

The Al-containing Ti-beta sample, TB-1, was synthesized according to the methods proposed by Camblor et al. [4], Aerosil 200 (Degussa), titanium ethoxide. tetraethylammonium (TEAOH 40 wt%, Alfa), and aluminum nitrate nonahydrate were used as reagents. The ratios Si/Ti and Si/Al were adjusted as needed. [Pg.180]

The Ni/AI catalyst used was prepared in the laboratory by coprecipitation following the method of AMJbaid and Wolf (21). Nickel nitrate hexahydrate and aluminum nitrate nonahydrate were dissolved in distilled water in the appropriate proportions to obtain a Ni Al ratio of 1 2. This solution was precipitated with amonium hydroxyde until the pH reached 7.9. The precursor was calcined in air atmosphere, with a low heating rate, reaching a final temperature of 750 °C during 3 hours. [Pg.348]

Aluminum nitrate nonahydrate (98%), sodium aluminate (92%), SDS (98%), CTMABr (98%) and sodium palmitate (98%) were purchased from Fluka, urea (99.5%) from Prolabo and hydrochloric acid Titrisol from Merck. [Pg.210]

The procedure used to prepare the hexagonal alumina is similar to that described by Yada et al. [15, 16]. 7.6 g of aluminum nitrate nonahydrate, 11.9 g of SDS and 36.2 g of urea are solubilized in 21.6 g of deionized water under stirring at 40°C. Consequently, the composition of the initial mixture is 1 AI(N03)3 9H20 2 SDS 30 urea 60 H2O. When a clear solution is obtained, the temperature is raised up to 80°C to decompose urea. A precipitate appears at pH = 5.5 but the solution is cooled down only when the pH reaches 7. The solid is then recovered by filtration and extensively washed with hot water. [Pg.210]
