Aluminum Materials

Correspondingly, amphoteric aluminum materials suffer active corrosion by the anodic partial reaction ... [Pg.58]

In some service stations, stainless steel or aluminum materials are used for all the filters, pipes and fittings to maintain the purity of the fuel. The rest potentials of these materials are different from that of plain carbon steel (see Table 2-4). [Pg.304]

LNG tanks are designed for fairly low pressures, typically less than 1.72 MPa (250 psi), otherwise their advantage over storing natural gas as CNG would be lost. As LNG warms, vapor is produced that builds up pressure in the tank. To protect the tank from rupture due to over-pressure, vent valves are included that will release some vapor when the maximum set pressure is reached. Vent valves come in two types those that reseat when the pressure in the tank falls below the maximum, and those that don t. The second type is used only to protect the tank from over-pressure rupture, while the first type is used to control the pressure in the tank. Often they are used together in the same tank. Both types of vent valves may be made from stainless steel, brass, and aluminum materials compatibility problems are rare because of the cleanliness of LNG. [Pg.117]

Example 18.2 Let us assume that we have a slab of 921 -T aluminum (material A) in contact with a slab of copper (material B). A long-pulse shock wave traveling through the aluminum encounters the interface. The initial shock pressure in the aluminum was 25 GPa. What pressure does this change to when the shock interacts at the interface ... [Pg.211]

The lower mantle is made predominantly of magnesium perovskite, and thus a solid understanding of element partitioning between perovskite and silicate melt is relevant to the early history of the Earth. Much of the early work with perovskite was done on aluminum-free or low-aluminum materials. However, magnesium perovskite can accommodate AI2O3 into its structure (Wood, 2000 Stebbins et ai, 2001),... [Pg.1135]

X-Ray diffraction (XRD) of the green material from side B of the halberd produced the powder pattern characteristic of malachite as well as another pattern that was attributed to some aluminum oxide or hydroxide. The exact form of the aluminum material could not be determined conclusively from the data available. XRD analysis of mixtures is difficult and involves more speculation than that of a pure material, particularly in ancient alloys (JO). Although the diffraction powder pattern of the green fiber pseudomorphs from side A was not as clear as that of the green nodule from side B, all of the lines apparent in the pattern could be correlated with those of the green nodule. The two must contain the same material, that is, malachite and some aluminum oxide or hydroxide. [Pg.409]

Aluminum is one of the most commonly recycled metals. Although many aluminum products are still discarded, 65 percent of aluminum materials are... [Pg.1098]

In conventional manufacturing of the doorway structure as practiced until now, apart from the standard parts such as rivets, rings, and pegs, 64 milling parts were cut from semifinished aluminum materials with very low utilization of material. Afterwards, those parts were joined by about 500 rivets. [Pg.571]

Aqueous, chromium-free acidic solutions have also been developed for aluminum materials that may contain complex fluorides of titanium and zirconium, phosphate, and special organic compounds. These solutions are applied by spraying or dipping (up to 60 °C) and produce thin, almost colorless conversion layers with a surface weight < 0.1 g/m. ... [Pg.200]

Neutral solutions Where ferrous materials are employed, benzoates are preferred. Benzoates are also suitable and tolerated where zinc and aluminum alloys are the materials employed. Tanins, which have variable compositions, being a natural product, are suitable for aluminum materials as well as ferrous materials. Amines, quaternary ammonium compounds, are suitable inhibitors for ferrous materials in neutral solutions as well. However, for [R4N]+X, a hypothetical quaternary amine, where R is between C12 and Cjg, inhibitor efficiency is much better if the halide, X, is iodine, I. For copper-based alloys in neutral solutions, the preferred inhibitor species are benzotriazole and mercaptobenzotriazole. [Pg.421]

The heavy component stream is sent to an elecnostatic Carpco separator for removing aluminum. The PET and A1 mixture is fed continuously onto a rotating steel roll maintained at high voltage. The electrostatic aluminum removal process takes aluminum from 1.2% (12,000 ppm) to 50-100 ppm residual aluminum in the cleaned PET flake. TTie aluminum by-product contains approximately 50% A1 and 50% PET by weight. An additional smaller separator is necessary to attain a higher purity aluminum material. [Pg.133]

Another form of failure for some materials is creep. Creep is a very slow, but permanent deformation of a material imder load. Some plastic materials are subject to creep failures. The cross-sectional area of a part may change and weaken the part as a result of creep. Another example is aluminum electrical wire. During a shortage of copper in the late 1970s, manufacturers substituted solid aluminum for solid copper in some electrical wiring applications. Tight connector screws became loose later as the local load of the connector on the aluminum wire caused creep in the aluminum material. That does not occur for copper wires. In some cases the loose connections for aluminum wires eventually led to arcing and fire. [Pg.104]

Vertical shore rails and horizontal wales are those that meet the Section Modulus requirements in the D-1 Tables. Aluminum material is 6061-T6 or material of equivalent strength and properties. [Pg.630]

Use of SDP effect allows receiving composite materials on the basis of aluminum with the set anisotropy of physical and chemical properties. Electrical conduction of aluminum can be changed in several times. The new technology of volumetric reorganization of aluminum and creation zones of nano-structures will find wide application by manufacture of electric installations and electronic devices. The economic effect from use of the new aluminum material in electric installations and electronic control systems will be hundred millions dollars USA. [Pg.166]
