Alias matrix

To analyze the confounding pattern in Plackett-Burman designs, a general method must be used. This method is to determine the alias matrix. [Pg.192]

The last term in the expression above, i/S Xi X 2 caUed the alias matrix. To compute this matrix, the multiplication X] X2 is done first. This gives the following matrix X/) ... [Pg.193]

The alias matrix is then obtained by first multiplying the above matrix by 1/8 and then multiplying the result by the vector of cross-product coefficient,... [Pg.194]

The above method must be used to elucidate the confounding pattern of Plackett-Burman designs. It is seen, that a fold-over design would separate the main effects from confounding with the two-variable interactions. A fold-over design would switch the signs of the Xj matrix and hence switch the signs of the alias matrix... [Pg.194]

It is possible to prevent an uncontrolled factor causing a biased result by doing the experiments in a random order (randomization), by ordering experiments to avoid effects correlated with time (time-trends), by blocking experiments, and by studying the alias matrix. These various techniques will be discussed in the following chapters, but they apply equally to screening experiments. [Pg.86]

In the laboratory 254 has inter alia been obtained in an argon matrix by irradiation of diazopropyne (253) at 10 K [106], Matrix isolation ESR and IR studies and ab initio calculations show it to be a 1,3-diradical with C2 symmetry, as indicated in Scheme 5.39 [107]. Irradiation with shorter wavelength light induces a 1,3-hydrogen shift by which the triplet propynylidene 254 is converted into the singlet propadienyli-dene 255, the parent system of unsaturated carbenes such as 251 (Scheme 5.39) [108]. [Pg.219]

Styrene as matrix and polybutadiene as dispersed phase. During this phase inversion the above-mentioned graft copolymers act as polymeric emulsifiers and determine, inter alia, the particle size and particle size distribution of the dispersed polybutadiene phase. This morphology is fixed through another chemical reaction, that is the crosslinking of the polybutadiene phase. Therefore, the reaction mixture at the end of the prepolymerization period (at 30% conversion) does scarcely alter its morphology when it is polymerized to complete conversion, which is done without stirring mostly in bulk in a separate vessel. [Pg.370]

Studies continue on the effects of a polymer host matrix on the excited-state properties of guest molecules. For example, the lifetime of excited singlet-state species may be greatly prolonged through restrictions of molecular motions (Gusten and Meisner, inter alia). Accurate information on the blend miscibility of polymers is provided by studies of excimer emission (Mikes et al.), and George et al. claim that the service life of many polymers can be predicted from their luminescence properties see also Martin. [Pg.624]

Knowing this result we can calculate the frequencies and displacements for different masses (as for isotopic substitution). The force constants depend inter alia on the atom type, but not on their masses. Thus if we have the dynamical matrix for the [FHF] ion we can... [Pg.149]

H. Burger, S. Sommer, /. Chem. Soc. Chem. Commun. 1991, 456-458. In this communication a new method for preparing 96 by gas-phase pyrolysis of perfluoro-l,2,3-triazine is described cf. H. Burger, W. Schneider, S. Sommer, W. Thiel, J. Chem. Phys. 1991, 95, 5660-5669 for matrix and high-resolution infrared studies and ab-initio calculations. Photochemically 96 has been prepared from difluoromaleic anhydride (J. C. Brahms, W. P. Dailey, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1989, 111, 8940-8941) and difluoropropadienone (J. C. Brahms, W. P. Dailey, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1990, 112, 4046-4047), inter alia. [Pg.65]

Madrid (Yves Smeyers, who already knew Alia Tadjer in Sofia), from Pisa (Roy McWeeny, one of the founders of the reduced density matrix formahsm, a keynote of our project), and from London (Stephen Wilson, whom Roy had known before but who was proposed by Sonia Rouve, a friend of Rossen Pavlov and the wife of a former attache culturel of Bulgaria in London). [Pg.7]

P. are particularly abundant in liver and kidney cells, e.g. a single rat liver cell contains 350-400 P. The half-life of P. is 1.5-2 days. Other cell types usually contain smaller P. with homogeneous contents (microperoxisomes). In addition to catalase, P. contain, inter alia, o-amino acid oxidase, a-hydroxyacid oxidase and urate oxidase. The latter enzyme is often present as a large crystal in the otherwise homogeneous matrix. These enzymes are particularly important in the oxidative degradation of metabolic intermediates (e.g. purine bases) and in the formation of carbohydrates from amino acids and other materials. [L.J. Olsen J.J.Harada Peroxisomes and Their Assembly in Higher Plants Annu. Rev. Plant Physiol. Plant Mol. BioL 46 (1995) 123-146)... [Pg.494]

In this chapter, the consequences of the irregular structure and function of the tumor microcirculation and the self-perpetuating hostile pathophysiological microenvironment (via a vicious circle) will be described. This overview considers, inter alia, many metabolic, biophysical, and physico-biochemical parameters of the tumor microenvironment rather than focusing on the complex composition of the tumor stroma, the cells therein, and their factors secreted, the key components of the tumor stroma, and the interactions between tumor cells, the extracellular matrix, and stromal cells (for reviews see, e.g., Mueller and Fusenig 2004 Witz and Levy-Nissenbaum 2006 Weinberg 2008 Ariztia etal. 2006 Cunha etal. 2003 Park etal. 2000 Liotta and Kohn 2001 Fidler 2002 Unger and Weaver 2003 Denko et al. 2003). [Pg.53]

Electroconducting carbon blacks are largely utilized to increase the electric conductivity of organic polymers. The electric conductivity of carbon blacks depends, inter alia, on the capacity to form branched structures in the polymer matrix, and on the size and size distribution of carbon black particles. The branched and tentacular structures of carbon in the polymer matrix are responsible for the electric conductivity, as is the case for lamp, acetylene, and furnace carbon blacks. The spedfic resistance of the carbon particles decreases with their size and then increases with further diminution of the size. A wide size distribution is believed to favor the formation of branched structures contributing to greater conductivity. [Pg.130]

Kumutha and Alias performed a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study of the samples of NR grafted with 30% of PMMA plasticized with EC and containing lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate (LiCFjSOj). The aim of this study was to investigate the interactions between the polymer and salt and also the influence of the plasticizer (EC), on the salted polymer electrolyte. From this study the authors observed the complex formations in NR-LiCFsSOs and EC-LiCF3S03 systems, but no interaction between NR-EC. It was also concluded that the plasticizer molecules had penetrated the salted polymer matrix in NR-LiCF3S03-EC complex. [Pg.108]
