The previous analysis of SAH behavior in the soil clearly shows that their application for improving the water-holding capacity is not universal. Hydrogel swelling in a porous, partially salinized medium is affected by numerous factors, most often negative, and therefore a rational application of SAH demands an accurate consideration of these factors. It is evident that certain principles for adjustment of hydrogels to physical and chemical soil parameters, as well as appropriate laboratory tests and calculation algorithm systems should be worked out. [Pg.129]

Neural networks are algorithmic systems introduced by McCulloch and Pitts in 1943 [24]. Their main advantage, compared with deterministic models, is their ability to provide information about the system to be modeled without prior knowledge of the physical process and identification of the mechanisms involved. Another important advantage of neural networks, compared to the data-based models like regressions or polynomials, is that they are non-linear parsimonious approximators, involving modeling of non-linear industrial processes with a rninimum number of parameters [25]. [Pg.385]

Figure 2 shows the forms of the smallest catacondensed tuple coronoids for g < 13, obtained from systematic generations by hand. All the systems fulfil the assumptions (Par. 3.5.2) of being naphthalenic with parallel holes. Those which emerge from the algorithm of Par. 3.5.3 (cf. especially Table 3) are all found in Fig. 2. In addition one "off-algorithm" system each for g = 3 and p = 7, which account for the above examples, are also found in Fig. 2, and finally one ofr—algorithm system for = 8, one for = 9, and four for g = 12. Application of the algorithm for analysis of vapor-liquid equilibrium data can be illustrated with the isobaric data of 0th-mer (1928) for the system acetone(1)-methanol(2). For simplicity, the van Laar equations are used here to express the activity coefficients. [Pg.99]

The question now is, given that there are often constraints to deal with, how do we evaluate the effect of these constraints on the system performance The problem table algorithm cannot be used directly if constraints are imposed. However, often the effect of constraints on... [Pg.181]

Expert systems. In situations where the statistical classifiers cannot be used, because of the complexity or inhomogeneity of the data, rule-based expert systems can sometimes be a solution. The complex images can be more readily described by rules than represented as simple feature vectors. Rules can be devised which cope with inhomogeneous data by, for example, triggering some specialised data-processing algorithms. [Pg.100]

Therefore, the adaptive properties of the above system include the PDD restoration algorithms from empirieal data. [Pg.123]

Simulations about Eddy Current Distributions and Crack Detection Algorithms for a SQUID Based NDE System. [Pg.255]

In this paper we present simulations and measurements of several types of excitation coils, which match the special requirements for a SQUID based eddy current NDE system. We note however that all calculations presented here on penetration depths, current distributions and crack-detecting algorithms are also useful for conventional eddy current testing systems. [Pg.255]

Due to large improvements in computer technology in combination with new designs of area x-ray detector systems it is possible to extend the 2D-CT systems up to the third dimension. Therefor special algorithms and techniques for 3D-CT of the measured projection data and 3D visualisation and measurement of the results had to be developed. [Pg.492]

For the practical evaluation of the algorithm described previously it is integrated into the NDT Sean Manager system (DBA Systems Inc, Melbourne, FL, U.S.A). This system allows film digitisation, display, evaluation and archiveraent of images /3,4/ and was developed for the needs of computer based industrial NDT film inspection. A snapshot of the user interfaee for wall thickness evaluation is shown in fig. 3. [Pg.564]

The Boltzmaim weight appears implicitly in the way the states are chosen. The fomi of the above equation is like a time average as calculated in MD. The MC method involves designing a stochastic algorithm for stepping from one state of the system to the next, generating a trajectory. This will take the fomi of a Markov chain, specified by transition probabilities which are independent of the prior history of the system. [Pg.2256]

Unfortunately, the resources required for these numerically exact methods grow exponentially with the number of degrees of freedom in the system of interest. Without the use of clever algorithms to optimize the basis set used [106,107], this limits the range of systems treatable to 4-6 degrees of freedom (3-4 atoms). For larger systems, the MCTDH method [19,20,108] provides a... [Pg.259]

The Helgaker-Chen algorithm results in very large steps being possible, and despite the extra cost of the required second derivatives, this is the method of choice for direct dynamics calculations. A number of systems have been treated, and a review of the method as applied to chemical reactions is given in [2]. [Pg.267]

For many applications, it may be reasonable to assume that the system behaves classically, that is, the trajectories are real particle trajectories. It is then not necessary to use a quantum distribution, and the appropriate ensemble of classical thermodynamics can be taken. A typical approach is to use a rnicrocanonical ensemble to distribute energy into the internal modes of the system. The normal-mode sampling algorithm [142-144], for example, assigns a desired energy to each normal mode, as a harmonic amplitude... [Pg.271]
